TikToker Nisse Sharma was traveling in Europe when she encountered an animal that she thought was a beaver. However, it turned out that this was actually a water rat.
I know the difference between beavers and rats and as long as you keep your distance, they are pretty much harmless, but I have come face to face with some women’s personal hybrid versions, aka Ratty Beavers and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Those critters have a breath that’d strip the paint off a battleship.
If you call it a Water Vole it is less scary. If you have read The Wind In The Willows then you will be completely relaxed. The tail of a Water Vole is similar to that of an otter's. The tail of the brown rat is like a piece of string and its habits are disgusting.
There is nothing quite so startling as going fishing on the kayak in the peace and quiet of the early dawn and having a beaver tail slap the water 10 feet away. Clean shorts needed.
Yeah, have had people around here get excited about the "beaver" when muskrats are swimming around. Made it tough to turn in a beaver that found a small local pond that was destroying all the trees in the park until I actually sent photos to the rangers.

And the rat tail didn’t give it away?

ReplyDeleteLouisiana has a nutria season beginning in November and ending March 31, and pays $6.00 per tail. A well placed .22 or a shotgun will do the job!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they make a gumbo out of them year round
DeleteNo Daryl, we don't!
DeleteStop saying dumb shit!
I've eaten nutria but never in a gumbo... Also it makes great dogfood.

ReplyDeleteWater rats are famously tasty....

ReplyDelete"Although I'd never seen a beaver in real life before, they're often portrayed as friendly in the media."
ReplyDeleteYeah, Yogi and BooBoo are portrayed as friendly in the media. She wouldn't want to share the TikTok video of her at that picnic.
Well tic-tocker talls me everything I need to know about her
