He took the 2nd word in the cop motto of "To Protect & Serve" literally. That's a mistake anyone could make, especially if there isn't a legal disclaimer.
Anon, I smoked about a pack a day for 30 years, but when my only child (daughter) was born I tossed a half empty pack in the garbage and never looked back. That was 30+ years ago and I never had any withdrawal thoughts or symptoms. Ya just need a good solid reason.
I quit when Marlboro red box went up to.50 cents a pack. My reason was I wasn't paying that for cigarettes, I finished the box and quit... I had good days and bad days for the first 2 weeks or so then it started getting better as long as I didn't hang around with smokers.. It was probably a year before I absolutely didn't want another one.. Quiting's not easy JD
Believe it or not, nicotine may have health benefits, just not In cigarette, cigar, pipe, snuff form. More research needs to be done, but I believe the preliminary results.

He wouldn't have had to call so many times if they'd just brought him his cigarettes the first time.
