The Ruger SP101 isn’t winning any popularity contests in 2025... but maybe it should be. With a few smart upgrades, this chunky little revolver proves it’s still got serious potential beyond everyday carry. We're taking a fresh look at the SP101 lineup, from modern mods that unlock its best features to often overlooked models like the .327 Federal Magnum and .22 LR variants.
Hard to beat a good Ruger for reliability. Bocephus had the emblem on his guitar strap. Love a Redhawk.
ReplyDeleteRoger that! Along with all the other Ruger revolvers. I have a 1986 (bought new), 3", GP100 in fixed sight configuration. With fast stepping 125 gr hollow points, it will keep all the rounds in the kill zone at 60 paces, leaning on ford truck hood. It's oh so handy that point of impact and aim, coincide.
ReplyDeleteI regret horse trading away my previous Security and Speed Sixes (5 or 6) of the past.
Have owned two of them. Both were Stainless Steel double action only in a .357 cartridge. One went to a long time Vietnam helicopter friend friend that passed away a few years. The other was stolen many years ago. Need to buy another one but the cost has really gone up. Carrying a slightly used Glock 17 with no regrets!
ReplyDeleteI’ve got two. One chambered to 357 and the other to 327. Like them both and should shoot them more. 327 is pretty scarce around here. Have to buy it online if I want any. Good cartridge but would not recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI once had and carried a 4" stainless steel Ruger Speed six revolver in 357 mag.. It was tough and reliable but a little hard to conceal during summer

Damn! Had one . . . sold it. I kick myself.
ReplyDeleteHave one in .357 with a 2" barrel. Its within 7 seconds of me anywhere in the house. Great wheel gun.
ReplyDeleteIt won't shake itself to pieces shooting full house loads all the time. In fact it will tolerate it better than you can tolerate shooting it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I gotta be different. I've got one in .357 with a 3-inch barrel that lives in the console vault of my Silvery-Rattle.
ReplyDeleteI have the 4” 327 and for me, it’s a loud and obnoxious little witch and I agree, I should shoot it more. Not a lot of ammo here either. Beautiful gun though.
ReplyDeleteStill have my stainless 4-inch Security Six bought in 76. I gave it to my daughter a few years back and got it back when she decided to move to Yurrup.
