A Step Back in Time

  1. My great granddad and his brothers, Wart and PeeWee, spent their entire lives in Archer City, TX working cattle and roughnecking. I think they had maybe 19 and a half fingers (Wart had one down to the middle knuckle that he'd use to freak me out)between them. They were all hard, tough as leather, quiet, solid, dependable men, and you don't find many like them anymore. These pics just sparked some memories.

  2. Love the way you paint pictures in words, Wiserangel :-)

The more I read WC's material, the more I see he also shares that talent...

    Loving it!!

  3. I worked in the patch around Archer City, TX. What some memories. I even got out with all my fingers.

  4. Robert, hopefully they had better safety measures by the time you hit the fields. These guys probably lost their digits sometime before the '50s. They were all gone before 1980. I still have my great granddad's 40X Stetson that he wore to church.

  5. I'll drink to that, HWA. God bless our forefathers, whose spirit built and forged out great nation with their sweat, determination and moral compass. We miss them very much and wish we had more like them today.
