When I used to do that I had an AAD. automatic activation device. It sensed rate of fall and altitude and supposedly would deploy the reserve chute at about a 1000 feet if I remember right. In the track position a guy can reach speeds somewhere north of 200 mph. That dudes lucky to be alive.

I think there was an Army Golden Knights guy who lost a leg...or both, in a collision like that.
