  1. That the latest in California firearms safety regulations? A cartridge with a time delay primer that allows the shooter to get a safe distance away?

  2. Hang fire, Russian WWII ammo is known for this. My daughter learned great discipline to "stay on target" when shooting a Mosin Nagant with Russian WWII ammo that did that. 7 seconds was the longest wait time for the round to go off. Didn't shoot much of it but the lesson has stayed with her and boy is she accurate now and has excellent muzzle control.

  3. 30 years ago, when I was younger, I was given some misc, old, abused ammunition. It was obvious to me, the mess of ammunition, had been wet at some point, and I was curious if the primers were viable.
Visible corrosion indicated very wet for a while.
The menagerie was rifle, pistol, and rimfire. Some 'modern' production, and many, much older.
I proceeded to strip it down for a bit of visual experience of contents, and a few pennies in scrap value.
Apply bullet puller, dump powder, and when all were disassembled, I put each casing in a vice and popped the primer with a punch.
It was interesting, and VERY informative!
Some few were dead. No amount of contact activated. (Actually surprised this was a small percent despite visual external condition!)
Yes, the sharply focused ping is key. Mauling smash not effective. Numerous took extra strikes.
Learning curve showed sharp strike point was bad, puncture is not desired!
Some were notably reduced ignition, with low effect. Puff or poof!
But a FEW, oh my shock and recognition of the result. I HAD, heard stories of Hang Fire!
HA,I turn to get the next one, and I hear an increasing fizz sound... Its slowly increasing! Like a sparkler starting (or reverse ending!)
Wild! Never considered that situation in chemical reaction, occurring like that in the application... Heh! DUH! Why Not?
YES- Experience is really good teacher! HA.
    ps~ that video- Holy Shit!
and Kimberwarrior45 above- your 7sec number is filed for addendum. Nice!
    Best Regards All!

  4. The round at least had the decency to fire before he got in front of it. I had two misfires in a Mosin-Nagant. After ejecting those two and firing the three remaining rounds from the clip, I loaded the two misfires, and both fired.

  5. I had a few boxes of steel cased 8mm Mauser ammo that was 1920's vintage that would do that. All fired, but it was a matter of when, not if.

  6. When I was a teen, the local national guard trained in the local park with blanks. I went through with a bucket and collected brass. I was smashing it when a friend stopped by. It was then I found one that was still live. The primer shot out and hit him in the hand. Buried in his knuckle.
