EDENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Rapidly rising water overtook dams and forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in central Michigan, where the governor said one downtown could be “under approximately 9 feet of water” by Wednesday.
For the second time in less than 24 hours, families living along the Tittabawassee River and connected lakes in Midland County were ordered to leave home.

Geeze, now Governor Gretchen has a real dilemma: does she have the evacuees arrested for leaving their homes or does she give them a waiver? That's vice presidential level decision making right there, I tell you what. Maybe she can take some posing lessons from Rachel Dolezal. Gretchen would be a shoe in then if she could get around Ms Stacey Abrams. Living in the future is so cool. regards, Alemaster
ReplyDeleteGetting around Ms. Stacey Abrams involves a good pair of walking shoes and a sack lunch.
DeleteWatch the national guard deployments. They could turn from helping out with the flooding to martial law really quick.
ReplyDeleteFor me "flooding" has been something you watched on TV. I've been up here in midland for about 6 years and every spring the Tittibawasee river comes out of its banks and floods the riverside parks and you hear about some flooding especially down river. This year, different animal , completely. This area has gotten 4 to 8 inches of rain. The Edenville dam has had known problems, failed and took out the Sanford dam which is just upstream of Midland.
ReplyDeleteOne of my wife's daughters lives on a creek that drains into the river, they got out last night and came to us with their howling beagle and 6 upset cats. Another daughter hasnt evacuated yet but we have the camping trailer set up to receive them if they come.
Searching this morning for updates, none found. Governor said Midland "could be" under 9 feet of water this morning. One site slightly changed the gov's statement to Midland "will be" under 9 feet of water. Given the state of journalism these days, "could be" and "will be" ... Close enough.
ReplyDeleteevery spring the river comes out of its banks and puts a few feet of water on the parks "downtown". I dont know if 9 feet will put it up into the actual "downtown"business district but there are residential areas in and around midland that are underwater. There was one emergency alert last night telling residents of an area west of town to report to a certain location to be evacuated by boat.
DeleteMy son in law just showed me pictures of Sanford, the downtown is under several feet of water. I got a feeling our house guests will be with us a while.
I am over here in Muskegon, but I am quite familiar with Midland. Wishing you all the best, and safety for everyone. We had some flooding here, in people's front yards and along roadways, that you would not expect, but nothing like what you guys are suffering.
DeleteIt happened to me once when I was a kid, living in Hesperia, that we had a flood that would have taken out our dam, if we didn't divert the water around it. Fortunately, the feds along with local money, completely rebuilt the dam and the area around it. It is not only safe now, but beautiful as well, and easy for fishermen to get in and out.

I've come to expect Dem failures in Michigan.
ReplyDeletemaybe "gretch" can just order the water to stay home.
DeleteDidn't work for King Canute...
DeleteCanute was only a king, Gretch is a DEMOCRAT endowed by gaia with rightful authority to bind in heaven what she binds on earth. Nevermind, that was another guy.
