How to kill a city's economy in 4 easy steps

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - The Metro Council approved a 34% property tax increase early Wednesday morning after the second-longest meeting in Council history.

The Council voted 32-8 to approve an alternative budget proposed by Councilmember Bob Mendes after a night of several failed budget proposals and technical issues.

First a monster tornado a few months back with millions of dollars in damages, then closing down all the music venues that made the city famous over the coronavirus, then massive downtown protests to keep out what few tourists have returned, and now a 34% property tax increase.....

  1. Last year. the city I live in put a new ordinance on the ballot, to approve a $10M bond issue to used to fund the construction of "arts" center; opera house/stage play venue. Now, apparently, the city government and most of the population is too stupid to figure out that the current facility where stage plays are held, MUST BE SUBSIDIZED in order to make the rent and utility bills, NEVER MIND BE ABLE TO PAY CAST MEMBERS A DECENT WAGE. This spring everyone's home/business property valuation went up anywhere from 50-100%, so that the city could claim it hadn't raised the TAX RATE, but could still find the $10M bond. Voters in this burg voted OVERWHELMINGLY for the bond issue, yet when the tax bills came out most people were pissing and moaning about it. As usual you get what is voted for, good and hard sometimes.

  2. ...which is about 20% of the reason why the misuses and I have begun to look for land outside this county. We debated a house on land or raw land. For too many reasons to list, we elected to try to obtain a few acres of land for now, but being to position ourselves to leave when the stupid-ass city council decided we don't need police here, either. I have been amazed at how badly Nashville wants to look just like a northern city. I suspect that is a result of the enormous influx of individuals from hard-left, failed states that came here for the (formerly) low taxes, (formerly) nice people, shitty climate, and many Chik-fil-a's. They vote to make it look like the failed state they left. In 20 years, their children will be bitching about how hard it is to live here -- if anyone is allowed to disagree by that point.

  4. If the city government was trying to destroy the city, what would they do differently?

And think of all those cities that splurged on baseball and football stadiums, etc. that are standing empty.

  6. Who knew that my family was on the leading edge of the wave when they left Nashville 140 years ago. (Note they left Dallas 70 years ago)

  7. I live in Michigan, and while it has a lot going for it, the idiots who run it make it easy to think about leaving. My wife and I have been to Nashville a couple of times, and used to love it. But since they have gotten so dangerous in some of the places that we went to, we don't even want to go there anymore.
As for me, I am no longer a fan of what they are putting out as country music now. Some of it is decent, but most of it is nothing more than over dubbed pop music, done by someone with a southern accent. If the are female, they have blond hair and big tits, and if they are a male, they have a 2 day beard and chiseled abs.
I prefer Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr.,and Don Williams, and Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, and Patty Loveless. They all could sing, and you felt like they actually lived the songs that they sang.
I do have a cousin who is in guest services at Dollywood, and lives in the mountains. She has invited me and my wife to come down and stay several times. I doubt that any travel is in store for us any time soon, due to my wife's health, with bad knees and back, and my back as well. But it is nice of my cousin to offer. She did say that Dolly Parton really is the same person in real life that you see on tv. I do know that Dolly has a program to give free books to young children, to help them learn to read. My grandson gets books from the program.
I think that my next move might have to be into a RV and drive west until I don't see any city lights.
