Looney Tunes Cartoons, the new series of animated shorts released exclusively on the HBO Max streaming service, will not be "doing guns," says series executive producer and showrunner Peter Browngardt. A throwback to the Looney Tunes cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s — bringing back classic pairings like Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, Tweety and Sylvester, and Daffy Duck and Porky Pig — the zany cartoon violence depicted in Looney Tunes Cartoons will continue with anvils, dynamite, and other weapons as part of the 1,000-plus minutes of all-new animation taking a cartoonist-driven approach to its simple, gag-driven storytelling.
"We're not doing guns," Browngardt told The New York Times. "But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in."

ReplyDeleteIf you can find the original Yosemite Sam and Buggs Bunny there were signs on the wall that said:
ReplyDeleteNo Spittin
No Fightin
No Cussin and
No Opium Smoking
But most of what WB spouted was a lie. A roadrunner's top running speed is 18 or 19 mph. A coyote can run up to 40 mph.
Elmer will have a sickle...as in "hammer & sickle"?
ReplyDeleteThe execs at HBO are idiots. Case in point...they just removed "Gone with the Wind" from their library. Fuckers would probably take a knee on demand too!
ReplyDeleteCan he at least keep his spear so he can "KIIILLL THA WABBBBITTT" to a Wagner Opera. But that episode had Bugs dressing in drag as he often did. So it might be transphobic or something.

Chalk it up to Hollywood 2020 James Mattis style. The pansy asses are now controlling the legacy filmcos.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think about all the violent stuff (incl. 'toons) I watched on TV in the
ReplyDeletelate 50's thru the 70's without ever killing or maiming anyone I just can't believe
the self control I've exhibited. I often wonder how many actors I saw die or how many
cartoon characters horrifically maimed w/o becoming a violent predator or murderer.
Mel Blanc must be spinning in his grave....
Stocking up on TNT just in case
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy the old Johnny Quest show on DVD a few years back and they were already ruining that and many more....The day they hope for is a day they will regret in the end.

P.S.
Bugs was only in drag to hide or get the goods on someone and if they turn my Bugs into a transbinary rabbit they'll pay for it......I hear that song Sweet Emotions and the line the rabbit done died....
This just another avenue of attack on the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. This all part of "the plan" to destroy the history of the country and reshape it in the image of politically correct wokeness. It 's the same as tearing down monuments to Confederate Generals or the beheading of the statue of Christopher Columbus. Once you take away a country's history, the rights and traditions arising from that history, go away. Then you don't have a country anymore, at least not one that reflects its founding principles and documents.
ReplyDeleteThis is revolution by another means.

Here's a link to a great science fiction short story about governmental overreach vs stubborn independence (spoiler, the good guy wins). This was written in 1978 and was prescient.

"I glance down at the pile of newspapers I leave on the outside bench. Around the rock that holds it down I can see where some committee of giraffes has announced that it will recommend the banning of Bugs Bunny cartoons from theaters and the airwaves. The creature, they say, shows a complete disregard for authority and is not fit viewing for children.
Well, I've been expecting that and dubbed up a few minidisks of some of Bugs' finest moments. Don't want the kids around here to grow up without the Wabbit."
Now pay attention to how the story ends.
Actually, consider the damage he could do with that sickle...I mean, when he shot the gun, there was a bang, some smoke and Bugs turned black face...a sickle can cause some pretty nasty collateral damage, no? and they'd hafta show something...

One of the best bits ever
I grew up with guns. We all had them. I walked down streets with my unloaded 22magnum/20 guage, and my friend with a gun, and no one thought anything about it. We did not need them for protection as much then as now. I and everyone around here has a gun...in fact, I doubt anyone has less than 3. I have more. My second wife almost freaked out when she saw two full gun cabinets. Then I got to show her the AK-47. LOL. Amazing times, but we will get through them. Lets hope the Democratic Party does not. In the process of throwing the USA under the bus, they seem to have thrown themselves instead. These days are going to be remembered in November.
ReplyDeleteJust hope the censorship doesn't get to the level of the UK. When they show 'The Mummy' here, it's about the same length as one of the advert breaks.
