Chris Mallory, a longtime reader and frequenter commenter has had a major medical emergency in his family and needs a helping hand.
Chris's wife was hit by a stroke back in September. While she made some progress, she never fully recovered. This past Wednesday night, she suffered another stroke, this one much more severe. According to his latest email to me, she's almost catatonic at this point. Unfortunately, a nursing home for her care is a strong possibility here.
From one of the emails from him:
I found out a little more on today's stroke. Strokes are ranked on a scale from 0-42. 0 is no symptoms. 1-4 are mild strokes. 5-15 are moderate strokes. 16-20 are moderate severe. And 21-42 are severe. Last year her stroke was rated a 5. Not good but it could be a whole lot worse. Today's was ranked a 20. Anything over 15 is really bad.
She's in a Nashville hospital so she's in good hands, but Chris could use some financial help with this. There's deductibles, expenses that either have higher deductibles or just aren't covered by insurance and last but not least, those expenses incurred by Chris to stay in the area while she's in a Nashville hospital, a few hundred miles from their home.
One of the great pleasures of this blog for me is that I'm in a position to get the word out knowing that we take care of our own. I've done many, many fundraisers over the past 10 years, everything from helping people in situations like this to helping readers pay for funeral expenses and Chris is one of those that never failed to step up, in fact he sent a check back in early June when my wife Lisa's son passed away. Thursday morning I returned the favor and sent him a donation. What goes around, comes around, right?
A GoFundMe account has been set up - I'll post the link at the bottom of this post. As I was making my donation, I saw that they no longer take a cut, so 100% of your donation will go to Chris. If you don't feel comfortable putting your card number online to them, you can send your donation to me. I'll post my mailing address along with the GoFundMe link. The only thing I ask is that you make your check out to Chris Mallory and not me - my bank lobby is closed because of this corona bullshit and depositing those checks and then buying a money order or cashier's check at the drive-thru window is a colossal pain in the ass. I'll just pop them in a manila envelope and send them to him via certified mail.
If you choose to send a donation to me through paypal for him, please note that it's for him and I'll send it to him through the GFM link myself.
I'd like to thank you in advance. If you're not in a position to give, please take a moment and pray for the Mallory family. Maybe you can send a Get-Well card. I know it'll all be much appreciated.
Thank you,
-Kenny Lane

I want to thank Ken for posting this. I appreciate it brother. Anyone who sends prayers or a donation. You have all my thanks from the. Bottom of my heart. If I miss sending a thank you, know it isn't intentional. Things a a bit hectic here, I am doing most of this at 2am after a couple of fitful hours sleeping in the torture device they call a chair.
ReplyDelete$100 anonymously early this morning - not sure I should have given an extra 10% to the gofundme folks but I get soft at times. :/
ReplyDeleteI kicked them 10% as well. I believe in tipping for a service.
DeleteIt beats the shit of them taking a cut right off the top.
Damn. This is tough on everyone involved. Chris, my family wishes your family all of God's strength and love during this horrible time in your lives.
ReplyDeleteKen, thank you getting this out to us. The amount donated jumped from $850 to ober $1000 in just a few minutes so know that you are doing a good thing.
Andy
Sent a bit over. Praying for recovery.
ReplyDeleteI sent a small amount as well. I am on a fixed income, and so try to not go crazy, even when I would like to. And I am not asking for any money at all, as I and my wife are doing quite well, having savings, and a decent income. But we have our 23 year old daughter who lives with us, due to some issues such as autism, etc, who has some sort of autoimune disease, that our local specialists here on the western shore of Michigan could not figure out. So she is at the U of M medical center in Ann Arbor, about 3 hours on the opposite side of the state.
ReplyDeleteRight now, they are trying a couple of days of very strong chemotherapy, just as if she had cancer. They did a biopsy of her kidney, and it is not working at all, and so they are really concerned for her. The problem with her insides triggered an outward disease called Sweet Syndrome, which is super rare, but causes huge blisters to form on her legs and arms, but can also form on her internal organs. She has some veins pushing on one lung, causing her to have a hard time breathing, so they have her on hi flow O2.
Again, I am not asking for money,at all, what I am asking for is prayer. I am a firm believer in the power and effect of prayer. I go by pigpen51, but my name is Tim, and my daughter's name is Krystal. Any prayers said for the wisdom of the doctors, and for her will be appreciated, and I would forever be in your debt. The doctors are very happy with the dermatologist here in town for sending her to them, since there was so much involved that he could not really know about. So we are trusting that things are happening the way that they are meant to be. Krystal is one of two of our adopted daughters, and a couple of years ago, had eye surgery for a detached retina, caused from shaken baby syndrome, which, I mean, who would have thought that such a thing would show itself two decades later? She eventually had one eye removed, and the remaining one is also having problems, now with this latest sickness.
Sorry for such a long post, I really just wanted to give enough info that people can pray intelligently for her and her healing. Thanking you in advance.
Ken, you are truly a blessing in so many ways. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mallory family. Gave what I could.
