Can President Trump Really Send In The Troops To Chicago And Other Cities?

We have previously discussed how President Donald Trump has repeatedly asserted constitutional authority that he does not have in dealing with the pandemic. The President routinely ignored the principles of federalism in such claims of control over states in their internal health and policing decisions. He is not alone. Cities like Portland have demanded that federal officers leave the city and stop making arrested. While there are legitimate questions raised about the conduct of federal officers in putting people into custody and the use of force in Portland, those concerns related to the use of federal powers, not the basis for those powers. The federal government has full authority to protect federal buildings and to carry out arrests for federal crimes in any city.

  1. From the article: "The shootings that President Trump is referencing in the killing of young children are the result of criminal acts rather than the rioting or looting."

So people from the riots who aren't associated with the riots are shooting and killing because not the riots.

Okay. Got that one wrong there, bucko.

    1. Don't know the writer or the web site but it reads like he was doing backflips to somehow or another make Trump look like he was doing something wrong. He failed miserably.

    2. Just like pointing out that some illegal immigrants perpetrate crimes means you're racist against Latinos, their line blurring 'Protesters' and 'Rioters' seems to be a definition of convenience. If the president threatens those causing mayhem, he is against 'peaceful protesters'...now they're saying they're completely separate. The spin is amazing.

    3. This guy's bio is located in the top middle right of the linked article.

In short, Turley is a recognized constitutional scholar of long standing (unlike the supposed constitutional scholar, Obuttboy), of moderate repute. I agree that he doesn't make the case against Trump doing something that is NOT within his Constitutional Power given the circumstances in various cities throughout the country.

When it comes to the rioters in Portland, Seattle and other places, I don't understand why they're snatching people off the street, then letting them go in almost the exact spot they were snatched from. If it was me, I'd be letting them go in the wild, somewhere well East or North of where they were taken.

These people aren't protesters. They are TERRORISTS and should be treated with the same disrespect they are showing their fellow citizens and municipalities.

    4. cj- "The spin is amazing."

Today I was listening to NPR radio (long story) when I happened to catch the NPR hostess interviewing an MSNBC babe (I didn't catch her name) as they discussed the 'federal troop' thingy. At one point little miss MSNBC said "Can you imagine the response if President Obama sent in federal agents to a Tea Party or Second Amendment rally?"

When I heard that I thought if this broad can't honestly see the difference between Tea Party people and the domestic terrorists that are tearing Portland up every night she and her network are even more mentally ill than I already thought they were.

  3. They aren't "troops", they are law enforcement. And they dont need to be "sent". They already live and work in EVERY major city. At most, some are temporarily transferred to places where there is a shortfall. What do democrats suggest? Evicting city residents if they have a federal government job?

    1. Would not surprise me; Portland Public Schools fired a football coach because he is also a Portland policeman.
Would be nice if the DAs and courts recognized prejudice no matter the reason.
Seems to me that discrimination based on your political view point should be one of the most important ones to protect.

  7. Turley is an avowed Democrat but one who tries to see things clearly and present them fairly. He is one of the few that I will read because - as you can see from this essay - he calls out the issues with clarity and within the rule of law. He is one of the few that does not suffer from TDS and by reading him one can get the opposing view from the Loyal Opposition. Not too many out there that you can disagree with without hating their ignorance, any more. He says it himself: Trump has the authority, he can do it. But he tells you why he thinks it's a bad idea.

  8. Article IV, Section 4: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence."

  9. Anceint generals often used patience to scope out the enemy and the threat before committing to battle. Let the terrorists burn Portland or Shitcago to the ground. At that point it is doubtful any other city would want to be next. Local "leaders" may well change their tune in a New York minute and beg for federal protection. Idiots like the demorat "leadership" who continue to throw gasoline onto the flames will be signing death warrants for their cities.

This Turley guy seems to think that twiddling thumbs while Rome burns as he sits in his Ivory Tower is quite okay. Just so he understands a very simple concept: there are still places in this country that will not allow that to happen. He seems to be just another over-educated fool. Maybe the mob will visit his home or his office and round out his education.
