Goodbye, Charlie - we're gonna miss ya

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The funeral for country music legend Charlie Daniels will be held in Murfreesboro Friday.

The service is set to begin around 11 a.m. at World Outreach Church on State Highway 99.

Law enforcement agencies will assist with Daniels’ escort from Sellars Funeral Home in Mt. Juliet beginning around 8 a.m.

Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Gretchen Wilson and Trace Adkins will perform during the funeral to honor the life of Daniels.

A memorial and visitation for Daniels was held at the funeral home this week as Middle Tennessee prepared to say goodbye to the southern rock legend.

  1. Back then I was dating this girl and her dad was pretty much an ass hole. Anyway, I always tried to make sure Long Haired Country Boy was playing when I pulled into her driveway.

  3. I commented on Charlie's death before but didn't see it posted, so here goes...
Back in the late 70's I was programming a big 100kw Top-40 FM that covered the Florida Panhandle. Soon as we received the album with "The Devil went down to Georgia" I knew it was a hit, and since we were all rebels back then, you guessed it, we played the album version complete with "I told you once you son of a bitch....". Instant hit. We could've just played that song, Stairway to Heaven, and Freebird, and our audience would have been happy.
Anyhoo, us breaking the record helped make it a hit, and Charlie Daniels called me up to say thanks. I put him on the air for a live interview and that's that.
R.I.P. Charlie Daniels, one of the all time greats!

  4. I have a Ringo Starr country album recorded in 1970, Beacoups of Blues. Charlie Daniels plays GUITAR on it. It is one of my favorite albums. I saw Charlie Daniels in concert 5 or 6 times. He was GREAT and a great patriot. God bless Charlie Daniels and God bless America.
