GOP Lawmakers Urge Attorney General to Defend St. Louis Couple’s Gun Rights After Firearm Confiscation

GOP lawmakers wrote a letter to Attorney General William Barr Friday, urging the protection of the firearm rights of the St. Louis couple that saw their guns confiscated after they went viral for defending their home against demonstrators, according to reports.

Mark and Patricia McCloskey were seen in a video brandishing a M16A2-style rifle and small handgun outside of their home as demonstrators broke through a private gate and encroached on their property line in June. Police executed a search warrant Friday and confiscated the couple’s rifle, and later their pistol, despite not yet filing any known charges against the pair, according to KSDK News.

The dozen Republican congressmen who signed the letter to Barr said the decision to commandeer the family’s guns could leave a “chilling effect” on all Americans, according to Fox News.

  1. Kim, what time have you scheduled the lynching this evening?

  2. If they are not being charged with a crime, they should be legally able to retrieve their property. This would constitute illegal search and siezure. They are both lawyers... can bet your bottom dollar they will sue the living crap out of the city (and bill them for the security detail they were forced to employ as their constitutionally protected right to self defense was seriously abrogated).
The longer they hold the guns, the bigger the bill. Keep them as long as you want, I don't care!

I read elsewhere the pistol was inoperable when they waived t at the mob. They are professional bluffers and historically have not been shy to sue.

    2. for all practical purposes they violated the golden rule of gun carry. the only reason to draw a weapon and point it is if your have someone or something that needs to die by gunshot. other than that, you don't pull the weapon from the rest position or holster. it is not against the law to kill in self defense and all the arcane rules that involves. it is against the law to threaten someone with a weapon. still, charge them or return them.

  3. The US attorney general does not have the authority or responsibility to just jump into a state court case simply because of a letter from members of Congress. Legal procedures must be met.

    1. Aye.

Why are they jumping the 'chain of command'?

Why isn't the MO state AG chimin' in?

      Where's da Governor? Cuckin'?

If the Governor had a pair, he'd direct the rogue St. Louis DA to return the weapons at once AND that'll he immediately issue a pardon for the couple...

...on whatever charge she pulls outta her kiester!

    2. But he does have the power to investigate, indict, arrest, and try civil rights violations. Until this happens with a 2nd Amendment violation, gun rights are being treated as less than other rights.

  4. All I can say based on the limits of the info provided by the msm et al I don't see the need to prompt the Attorney General to pursue this. The AG is there to guard against the abuses of our Constitutional rights. The AG's reaction to this incident should have been intuitive, a knee jerk response right from the beginning. The AG should have stood tall and defended the couples right to defend themselves against the the torrent of crazed blm/antifa thugs which represent a clear and present danger to OUR freedom. The AG sold the McCloskey's down the road. What's next Mr. AG kneeling before blm and/or washing the negros feet. I think WE all know the answer to that.

  5. Doubt very seriously the rifle was an M16. Adding "style" to the description is a dodge with a nod to hyperbole.

  6. The couple was protecting their property from potential riot and looting. What's more American than that? I think the city is skating on thin ice by confiscating their guns for no valid reason.
