When us kids was wading in the water down on the gulf coast in Louisiana, our legs kept getting pinched. It turned out it was shrimp snipping at our legs. So we got a hoop net and started to haul them in. Those shrimp were up to a foot long. Few believe me but I tell you it is true. There are/were shrimp that large.
Way back around 1963 my brother and me would use a minnow seine along our coast to grab some bay shrimp. They were usually small, maybe 30 count but they were great for bait and boiled shrimp...you peelums...in those days we had shrimp in the freezer year a round.
Cajants (sound it out if you must)
