I wonder how many of the nine rounds fired actually hit the guy. I think the apparent malfunction was the officer inadvertently hitting the mag eject button in all the excitement.
Damn cop. He should have let that man stab him at least twice to see if he was serious about hurting him. I know a lot of people don't like the cops, I get that. However, with the BLM bullshit I think it high time we started supporting these folks.
Yep, once you decide to shoot you have decided to kill so finish the job. Sad to see someone do that to themselves but she handled it great for what was extremely likely the first engagement of her life.
I counted 13 shots and what appeared to be a jam. Where was this? New Germany? The constables office needs to check their ammo selection. Especially when "woke" judges around the country are claiming that "only 3 rounds are fired "average" in self defense situations.
Southern Michigan. Our guys are better Up North (take fewer shots to finish the job)...and if you cross the Mac, you are in a whole 'nother country. The Upper is unforgiving.
Oh, let's be honest, the *white* officer only shot him because he was *black*. If the suspect had been *white*, she would have let him go with a ... wait, you mean ... oh, never mind.
Like hell... For your own protection, you _need_ to start carefully reading about self-defense, and stop watching Chuck Norris shit. Yea... 2 or 3 rounds of a .45 or 10mm, in the center of mass (if you can hit it with all the adrenaline and side-to-side bobbing) will kill the target eventually, but not before they can deliver a killing blow to you as well. Even when they do bleed out, they have already pushed that knife into you spleen and dug around a little. Pistols and close-quarters engagement is NOT like what is seen in the movies. That thug DID NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND he had been shot for a good 5-10 seconds, probably about the time he actually fell over. If he was hopped up on whatever, he may well have died before he felt anything.
Good on the officer for the quick recovery from that malfunction. I sure what not have been able to do that. She should never have let him get that close, but recovered well.
BTW, 0.22 is more lethal in the forehead or heart than a 0.50 BMG in the finger. It is not "all" shot placement, but that is a big part. -Just A Chemist
Yep - watch that part in slow speed (I looked at it at 0.25 speed) and you can see him with his hand on the police officers hand forcing the gun down before she jumps back and puts more distance between them. She is lucky that at that point he did not swing with his right hand and hit her with whatever he had as a weapon.
In my opinion she allowed him to get WAY too close before shooting.
A groin/hip shot would probably have stopped his advance and he only had a knife. It looked like the threat was only hit solid once he stooped for the weapon. Great teaching vid on why one should, when possible, engage with a rifle. And reference rule 308. R
Of course handguns are a compromise between size and effectiveness. A rifle holstered on your person is a bit cumbersome, both to walk around with and to draw.
I'm not an armchair quarterback. Having said that I've been shooting a Gen 2 Glock 17 for nigh on 30 years with no malfunctions. I can't think of a malfunction ever happening and I've actually hunted with it and shot for blood under time pressure. So I will say this: You limp wrist a Glock and it will jam. You must get your wrist locked.
it jammed because the perp actually made contact with the slide and apparently knocked it out of battery enough to cause a misfire. koodos to deputy dog for staying cool under pressure and clearing the malf in stride. i think i'd got stabbed.
She needed to move off the "X" because all the perp had to do was continue walking forward. Then again, Monday morning quarterbacking is an easy thing to do.
Read elsewhere that she is a 22 year LE veteran. This probably will the the most significant engagement of her whole career. The guy apparently had issues in that he had stabbed someone earlier with the screwdriver. In one video there are sirens heard in the background, but you never see backup arriving. Probably the longest minute of her life. Now she will have years to deal with that one minute. Wondering if everyone who screams "defund the police" would be whistling a different tune is they got stabbed by a crazy guy with a screwdriver. Hats off to the lady deputy for her courage and dedication.
That's actually a very good point. Sirens for the whole time the video plays, but she was on her own for the entire fight until it was over. When seconds count, the police are minutes away, even for the police.
I'm not sure about 'letting' him get too close. He stopped, and got out of his car and approached while she was likely on the radio about plate checks or something. He refused orders to back off, so she got out as fast as she could at that point. Perp got what he asked for.
DRT!

ReplyDeleteOh, and never bring a knife to a gun fight.

ReplyDeletenice and calm malfunction clearing....
ReplyDeleteShe made a mistake letting him get that close but stayed cool clearing the jam, kept shooting until the threat was gone.
ReplyDeleteYep, once you decide to shoot you have decided to kill so finish the job. Sad to see someone do that to themselves but she handled it great for what was extremely likely the first engagement of her life.
DeleteIf he had dropped the weapon and obeyed lawfull authority his mama wouldn't be crying. The office went home to her Family that day.

DeleteHow many shots did it take to put him down ?? Too many.
ReplyDeleteI think it was 11 - didn't say how many hits.
DeleteLooks like he had a jam?
ReplyDeleteSHE did and cleared it rather nicely.
DeleteMighty surprised that Sharpton didn't show up and add some makeup to the body with black shoe polish.
ReplyDeleteOh, let's be honest, the *white* officer only shot him because he was *black*. If the suspect had been *white*, she would have let him go with a ... wait, you mean ... oh, never mind.
DeleteLots of shots fired. Why? Is she using a 22 caliber? My 10mm sure would have stopped the prick well before 11 shots.

DeleteDon't count on it.
9mm, 10mm, or .45 - it wouldn't matter. It's all shot placement.
DeleteYeah, but only because you would have actually hit your intended target.

It looks like the (now) dead guy got his hand on the slide briefly, causing the jam.

Phil B
She definitely let him get too close, but good corrective action clearing that jam.
DeleteLooks like the first hit she got was when he hit her arm and next round went into his leg. Before that she missed every time? Hard to tell. I dunno
ReplyDeleteI love a story with a happy ending.

DeleteTake it the perp didn't survive.
ReplyDeleteInfo on the YouTube version indicates he died in surgery.
DeleteKudos to the deputy. She did good. Her body cam is her friend.
Dumb ass brought a shank to a gun fight and learned that just ain't too bright
ReplyDeleteLint build up can be deadly!

DeleteMayhap the perp momentarily getting ahold of her pistol and in the doing knocking her hands down had something to do with the problem.
DeleteFor either not noticing or not caring about that you are indeed an armchair quarterback.
