Your Friday Morning Florida Report

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man riding his bicycle on Thursday suffered multiple injuries when he crashed into an iguana that sprang into his path.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, located in the Florida Keys, posted pictures Friday on Facebook showing the aftermath of the man-on-reptile crash. They show the limp-looking lizard lodged between the bicycle’s tire and its metal frame.

  1. If there was an "Iguana Crossing" sign?

  2. It's not "between the bicycle’s tire and its metal frame". FFS. It's wedged in the fork.

Also, the iguana is disappointing. I was expecting one of those 5+ foot long iguanas.

  4. Guy told me once he was riding his bike somewhere in the southwest and ran over a rattle snake it got all tangled up in the wheel and chain. It was still alive and pissed, very pissed. I dont remember exactly how he got the snake out.

  5. IMHO, if you need to go to the emergency room after laying down a motorless bike, you're too old to ride. (I'm 66 and still riding!)

Joe: Back when I was stationed at Cannon AFB, I'd have called one of the guys that claimed to like eating rattlesnake and let _him_ figure out how to extract the snake. Or walked until the problem resolved itself; either the rattler will recover and extract itself, or it will die in a few days. Or even bought another used bike at the base thrift shop...
