Man who fatally shot armed BLM protester identified as active Army sergeant

The gunman who shot and killed a Black Lives Matter protester in Austin, Texas last week has been identified by his lawyer as an active-duty US Army sergeant.

Dallas-based law firm Broden & Mickelsen identified Daniel Perry as the solider who fatally gunned down 28-year-old Garrett Foster last Saturday, The Statesman reported.

Perry, 33, who has served a tour in Afghanistan, had been driving for a ride-share company at the time of the deadly incident, according to a statement from Perry’s attorney Clint Broden. He claims the shooting was in self-defense.

  1. "as the soldier who fatally gunned down" sounds a awful lot like the left has got a hold on this one. They have already proclaimed him guilty. Every branch of the military has credo that says self defense will never be denied. So, you come up to a car brandishing an AK and everyone expects a combat veteran to not do a thing? Fuck off liberal scum. Self defense is self defense, no matter how you shit heads spin it.

  2. I had the same thought on the 'gunned down' phrasing. Also having a tough time seeing this pass a 'would a reasonable person in this situation...' test. Yeah...surrounded by a crowd, beating on the car, and starts pointing a rifle at me? Seems pretty reasonable to feel in fear for your life. I think so many people forget...as soon as you introduce a firearm into a situation, it's not this big deal thing that suddenly makes you invulnerable...it increases your threat potential dramatically...this is why most classes I've taken (and people I hang out with) discuss staying low profile when carrying, not escalating situations, etc. By having the rifle and poking it around, this guy really upped his threat level...even if he'd kept it slung and pointed in a safe direction, I'm betting he'd be fine to continue protesting.

    1. Well, they convicted the guy in Charlottesville who pushed through a crowd of protestors who were smashing his car, causing one of them to die of a heart attack because she was so unhealthy.

So there is past case law somewhere in the USA to base laying charges down.

  7. Could be the reporter used the first phrase that came to mind after using "shot and killed" in the lead graf. Journalists who focus more on style than accuracy will use words they have heard from others, without thinking about what the words mean. Like when a writer says "the gunshot victim" when referring to a bad guy. A writer who has heard that phrase applied to "gun violence victims" is unlikely to think before writing. It is a dumbass thing, but it happens. "Gunned down" carries the same meaning as "murdered," but there again, way too many reporters do not engage their brain before writing.

  10. He could claim PTSD from his tour in the Afghanistan. Actually that is just a thought Somebody points a gun at you and you are armed you shoot to stop them before they can harm you. Plain and simple

  11. I think the word 'gunman' is sexist.
If the prefix 'gun-' is required to support TheAgenda©, I think the preferred 'cis-' needs to be 'gunperson'.
As in "Hello, I cis-identify as a 'gunperson'. What are your preferred pronouns? And please, stop referring to the deceased peaceful protester using the pronouns 'was' or 'has-been', because, how ever accurate, that's just rude."

Although the phrase 'gunned down' is particularly supportive of TheAgenda©, don't you agree?

Reminds me of the old The Onion headline: "Crazed Palestinian Gunman Angered By Stereotypes"
