Reminds me of Tacos Jessica

Tacos Jessica was my all time favorite taco truck in California. You could order a burrito there and it would be as big around and as long as your forearm, stuffed with the meat of your choice along with rice and beans. Cost was a whopping $3.50 and it was enough to make two meals. Their burritos weren't the main draw though, it was their tacos. Oh dear Lord, they were the best I've ever had.
Not only was the food great but they were also set up in a shitty part of town, so there was a pretty good chance you'd see a shooting or at least a fistfight while you were eating at a table underneath their canopy, especially late on a weekend night. Nothing like dinner and a show, right?
I swear, if I'm ever forced to go back to California, Tacos Jessica is going to be the first place I stop when I get there and my last stop before I leave.

  1. What the hell, Kenny. WHERE IN CALIFORNIA????????

I mean, I have plans to never, ever go back there myself, but it always pays to be prepared, right?

  2. There was a place in Denver, on the west side of course, called Chubbys and they made green chili that was the best I've ever had. Even better than mine which is killer. Sometimes I'd just get a quart of chili and some tortillas.

Many a time when I would come back from a road trip, my first stop before I even went home, was Chubbys.

  3. Damn, they must have one helluva comal to cook that tortilla ! That is one 'commode choker' for sure. So which are your favorites burrito - breakfast or dinner ? Any recipe ideas you want to share with the rest of the class ? My breakfast is pretty simple - refried beans and bacon, with a strip of cheese and jalepenos to taste.

Man, where did that drool come from ... :^)

    1. For breakfast, a breakfast burrito that I make. I'll put up my recipe from my old blog on Friday.
For lunch or supper, I like carne asada or tongue with rice and beans.

    2. That's funny. When I saw the picture above my first thought was "I haven't bad a burrito for breakfast lately". Shame on me.

    4. A place Rockford, Illinois (God forbid) called Uncle Nick's makes a Gyro to die for. Left town on a Greyhound headed south with 6, including 4 hour layover in Springfield, Mo. Made it home with 1. ge

  4. 1st rule of taco trucks. Just eat it, never ask what kind of meat it is.

    1. At Tacos Jessica, it's two meals - once you start eating you can't stop until you just can't stuff anymore into your belly.

    2. There was a place in Oxnard where you could order a burrito any way you wanted. My way was a four-way starting with barbacoa, beans, rice and cheese. The thing was a foot long and three inches across. It was a meal and a half. Now here in Texas, it's hard to find a flour tortilla as big as that, so I will order one with chorizo and egg, bean and cheese, I had to train my fav taco spots...they always wanted to make two tacos. One with bean and cheese and the other with chorizo and egg. They couldn't get their head around having all four things in a taco.
Carne Guisada is better here in Texas than I have eaten anywhere else. Try a carne guisada, bean and cheese taco (two or three) and you will be satisfied.

    1. Nah, the one I went to was in Modesto. The pictures of the food at the links show me it's a different truck - for one thing, the guy's holding a tiny carne asada burrito compared to the truck in Modesto serves.

Does her truck say 'Jessica's Taqueria' on the side?

    5. Well, that sucks, big time.
This Covid crap is completely out of control. And the clowns running California could give a rip how many lives they destroy in the process. Sickening.
