A pair of sea lion pups splashed and played at Point La Jolla last week, chasing each other in circles through a sheltered pool, while other pups lounged on the beach or sheltered in a crevice between rocks.
Surrounding them was a crowd of visitors, cellphones in hand, some within arm’s reach of the baby marine mammals.

I once lived near Point La Jolla and now live near Yellowstone NP. I now am only surprised by those who go above and beyond in their stupidity. I've seen people try to place an infant on top of a bison for a photograph. Someone has to be extra special to beat that.

I know that area and that's a famous spot. Idiot council members have argued for years about "letting" the seals use that part of the beach since it's primo. Looks like the wildlife won.

I worked offshore on the west coast 1000 years ago. Sea Lions are assholes. They need to be killed. I have killed many just for fun. And the poor fishermen are targeted by the sea lions to kill and eat as much as the fishermen's net catches and then the fucking sea lions will destroy the net. I could give a rat's ass what the fedgov, stategov or anyone else says is law, the fucking sea lions are nothing more than powerful invasive killing animals. May they all die.
