The separateness in New York, and by extension much of the nation curled around it from America’s eastern edge, stands out. There are the hyper-wealthy and there are the multi-generational poor. They depend on each other, but with COVID who needs who more has changed.
It’s easy to stress how far apart the rich and the poor live, even though the mansions of the Upper West Side are less than a mile from the crack dealers uptown. The rich don’t ride public transportation, they don’t send their kids to public schools, they shop and dine in very different places with private security to ensure everything stays far enough apart to keep it all together.

I find this amusing; I would find it hysterical but I (and you!) will be left to pay for it forever. How did it happen? Maybe unchecked immigration, huge illegal alien population, welfare for anyone and (my personal favorite)sanctuary city. I have barely exposed the tip of the iceberg.
ReplyDeleteThink of Margaret Thatcher's famous quote. It helps in clarifying this matter.
I'm less concerned about NY(F)C than I am about the other communities to which the pathology will spread. As soon as these wealthy, enlightened, progressive assholes move into some decent place, they'll set about "repairing" the new community by getting laws and ordinances passed to turn it into the shithole from which they fled. It's what they do.
ReplyDeleteIt's like a surgeon trying to remove a tumor. You want to get it whole, in one piece, and not spread the cancer cells around.
Exactly - formerly decent places in the South and West will become infected.

DeleteDark humor, and a cautionary tale.

There should be Electoral College within each state. The people of NY are owned and operated by liberal NYC. The people of NY are taxed so badly and they get nothing in return. It all goes to NYC. SW NY is a shit hole with all cities dying because every penny has to go to NYC. Many don't know Albany NY is actually the capital of the state and Albany is a huge shit hole too, all the money goes to NYC.
ReplyDeleteWhile it’s easy to point at these places and laugh, as this was always going to happen, virus or no virus, we shouldn’t. Enjoy your schadenfruede now (I know I am guilty of it too) but these people are going to be our new neighbors in red states. Where I live, you can get a nice brick 4/2 with a two car garage in a good neighborhood and school district for 200k with low property taxes. You can get a huge house on the water for a million, far less than a luxury apartment in NYC costs with three or 4 times the space. These people are like locusts and will spread their toxic ideas to our towns.

This is just the beginning of the domino effect from what will go down in history as the biggest scam ever foisted upon mankind. We can only hope that some of the consequences of this faux pandemic will include prosecutions.
