Publix no longer implementing one-way aisles

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Shopping at Publix is going back to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic form.

Publix officials said that they will no longer be implementing one-way aisles at stores who are no longer under local ordinances requiring this measure.

Walmart implemented this bullshit too and while I don't know how successful it was in other locations, here in Lafayette it was a dismal failure. Nobody paid any attention to it here.
Same thing with the mask deal - people wear them if they want, but store employees don't challenge them if they choose not to.

  2. A couple of store here implemented the one way aisles, but it was widely ignored and with good reason. I went in to grab a couple of items and both were on one way aisles close to the front of the store. In order to follow the silly arrows, I'd have had to walk down one aisle and back up another, passing everyone that's standing there comparing labels and prices, instead of walking 5 feet down the aisle and passing no one. Another example of people making rules that have no clue how things work.

  3. Publix also has direction parking lanes in the parking lots that are complete with big arrows painted on the ground. They should have known the direction lanes in the store were not going to work because of all the knuckleheads that go the wrong way in the parking lot.

  5. I purposely ignore the one-way aisles at my local Walmart. If anybody were to challenge me, I'd just tell them I'm selectively illiterate.

  6. Never wore a mask and never paid attention to the arrows.
    This shit is soooo stupid.

    1. No kidding! All anyone needs to do is search the truth and they will find that the covid is no worse than the seasonal flu. ALL the numbers coming from CDC, WHO, and the other one world gov "health" groups is all bogus lies, propaganda.

Even the Texas Health Department got on the commie bandwagon and has been masterbating the numbers. They all need to die. Fuckin' commies.

  7. Just returned from a metals surplus store. Not a fucking mask or arrow in sight. Owner's Jeep Cherokee is flying an American flag and a Trump 2020 Fuck Your Feelings flag.

  8. I also ignore the "social distancing" 'X' marks.

I've seen too many Roadrunner cartoons. If I stood on the 'X', I'm afraid an anvil (or safe) will fall on me.

If someone in Wally-world were to ask me if I saw the arrows, I'd reply, Naw, man, I didn't even see the Indians!"

BTW: I ride a 2020 Indian Scout motorcycle. Not too bad for a 76-year-old fart.

  9. My daughter and I just got back from the local Lowe’s. The entrance sign says masks are required. So, we didn’t wear any. Bought some paint, few other items. A couple of the sheep in the store gave us dirty looks and one couple stared at us but no employee said anything. The girl at the checkout was pleasant.

Masks are for sheeple. I haven’t been denied entry anywhere without a mask.

  10. Purposely stocked up on items to get me through September, and have avoided shopping for food since - hoping for an outbreak of sanity to appear.
The county I live in recently pushed the mask requirement through the first week of October.
The state border is nearby, and they aren't being stupid over there, so guess where my next shopping trip is going to take place.

  11. WalMart won't let you in the store without a mask. They closed one entrance so there's only one way in and out and they have a couple of big fat black women that will hound you if you don't put on a mask. It's the only place in town that I'vw been to that the employees will say anything if you're not wearing a mask. I stopped going to WalMart forever.
We have a local mask order and I was in the grocery store last week and there were two cops in there. I wasn't wearing a mask, as usual, and as we passed we did the little head nod and they never said a word.
Stores have aisle arrows but they're universally ignored.

    1. Must depend on the wal mart, local ones have a person posted at the door who doesn't say a calm word to people (me included) when entering without a mask. Arrows are totally ignored too.

  12. They did that here in Austin, TX, too. I decided to actually follow those arrows for a few aisles to see what happened. I was the only person going the right way on any of those aisles -- including the Wal-Mart employees. When you can't get your own employees to follow the rules, the rules are a huge joke!!!

  13. I was only chided once in Publix for “going the wrong way” down an aisle. I told the hubs I’d Publix wanted me to go specific ways down aisles I would need a passing lane.

  14. I was in a store that had floor arrows (on big adhesive stickers). On sticker had come partly unpeeled so that it was mostly sticky side up. I stepped on it without noticing and got tangled up. It was like a giant piece of human flypaper. I could easily see an old and frail person falling and breaking a hip because of it.

Another store insists on spraying your hands. First time I went I refused and claimed severe allergies ("do you want liability for anaphylactic shock?") when they tried to push it, after which the spray guy put his hands up, "No, no! You go right ahead." The second time it was some Asian guy who called security on me when I blew past him. (Way to be a rules-obsessed anal retentive living negative stereotype, jackass.) Security never bothered to hunt me down, but I'm not going back to that store.

  15. I'm with Billy Bob. None of that nonsense for me!

No one in Publix, Walgreens, CVS, or AutoZone has said anything to me nor have I received any sour looks from other customers (for weeks now but I do admit I look like someone you don't want to talk to anyway). Went to Target last week and no one said anything although today at Target the cart jockey inside told me that I had to wear a mask but I ignored him and kept walking. He called after me "sir! sir!" but I kept walking and nothing came of it. Smiled and said hi to the nice lady monitoring self check-out, she said hi back and that was it. This was in Bham.

  16. Last week I was out and about doing errands. On the way home, I got a craving for a slice of pizza. Stopped in at the grocery store deli where they sell it by the slice, fresh made. The city I live in has a mandatory mask order for all public buildings, issued by the Mayor. I forgot to put one on going in to the store. No one said a word to me either at the deli counter or at checkout.

The store has arrows on the floor and most people comply, including me, most of the time. When I walk in the aisles with my list I skip aisles that don't have things that on my list. That tends to screw up the arrow markings which, if I know what I'm looking for is at the near end of the wrong way, I just go get the list item, screw the arrows.

I actually had a couple people, early on apologize for going the wrong way. I was also accosted by one of the store employees for going the wrong way in one of the dairy aisles. I looked at him and said "well I'm only going one way". He started to give me some more crap and I looked at him and "Sonny, you're messing with the wrong person. Unless you're going to arrest me or have me thrown out of the store, at which I've been shopping for a quarter century, I'd move along if I were you." He walked away. As I said, I've been shopping at that store for a quarter century. Never saw that guy in that store before or since.

  17. Here in Missoula Montana the walmart employees strictly adhere to the facemask thing. I got escorted out of one because I refused to wear the mask. They even called the police on me.

  18. What are these masks & one way aisles you speak of?

  19. I go to two different Publix.

At the one with narrow aisles it is hard to pass carts going opposite directions. Almost everyone with carts naturally started following the arrows. The only people bucking the trend were those with hand carry baskets.

Hopefully we will get another 2-3 months of inertia where people remember the arrows even though they are gone.

  20. The only time I got hassled was at Auto Zone. Manager made me wait outside and brought my part out to me and made change.

  21. Local non-mandate county, you never see a mask in the gun stores or the tire stores. Walmart, Kroger and Publix almost 100% masks. I wear one because they ask nicely.
