Wildfire danger closes Stanislaus National Forest, 7 others

Extreme wildfire danger across California is forcing the closure of several national forests in the state.

The closures went into place at 5 p.m. Monday, and they affect campgrounds, day-use sites and recreation areas.

In a statement explaining the decision, the U.S. Forest Service pointed to a combination of extreme heat, significant wind events, dry conditions and firefighting resources that are stretched to the limit as reasons it needed to shut down eight national forest sites in the state.

I've seen this once before, back in the mid to late 1980s. You could drive up the highways to the high Sierras, but all the dirt Forestry Service and logging roads were barricaded so you couldn't enter the woods.
They even had aircraft patrolling the skies looking for people that managed to sneak in and God help you if you got caught.

  1. That's what Central Florida during 1998 looked like. After decades of leftist wingnuts shutting down preventative burns, the whole state caught fire. They had roads closed into a lot of the little wooded communities and you risked your life turning down one, either the sheriffs or the homeowners doing overwatch for looters and arsonists would get you.

Funny, after 1998, and the state went back to burning for fun, we haven't had a firestorm. Hmmmm...

  2. Too bad the NFS and the state of Califuitopia haven't carried out fireprevention/mitigation for a couple decades. MMaayybbee if the dumbasses in state.gov had LISTENED to the people that know about these things, instead of automatically reverting to tree hugging mode every time someone wants to do some brush clearing, these fires wouldn't be as bad as they are and would be easier to extinguish once started. But, NNNOOOOOOO everyone in CA state.gov is an environmental genius. Just ask them.

Yeah, but it's just the mundanes who suffer, not the elites (mostly), so really - who's actually harmed by any of their idiocy? Us lowly insects don't count as "people," obviously.

  3. WHAT? Only Now, with the very REAL threat of forest fire?
As opposed to last spring "You might catch Covid. Out by yourself. Alone." No you can not be in the forest.
    The clown parade continues.....

  4. Question:
"Could the roads be blocked to prevent other terrorists from arsoning more forests?"
"Could the roads be blocked to prevent terrorists from escaping after they arson the forests?"

    Break into small groups, discuss.
