Grace in the Blue Ridge Mountains
The Asheville, North Carolina restaurant was one of those common to our post-post-modern world. Open and airy with a wall of windows framing hanging plants. Casual to the point of paper napkins. Sporting a list of local beers and — surprise — local wines. Tarted up with the kind of overtly ironic art on the walls where the painter has one statement and one image in his repertoire and repeats it ad nauseam. This time it seemed that the sensibility being trotted out was one of Hieronymous Bosch meets Hello Kitty.

Welcome to the Bible Belt you pretentious prick!
ReplyDeleteanon speaks for me. I would add "now go back to Seattle."
DeleteVery uplifting. My family and I say grace at restaurants. We get stares but no one has ever confronted us. Perhaps that I'm 6' 250 lb and my kids are all 6'+ may have something to do with that...
ReplyDeleteSo do we, and we're not the only ones in the place. I see it all the time around here.
DeleteLiving not too far from Assholeville, I can attest the slime who currently occupy this once majestic NC city are Liberal invaders from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan and other shithole northern states.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about the pretentious bull-dyke femi-nazis running around there too.
DeleteI hear ya Bogs, I am 1 1/2 hrs over the mountains north of Asheville. Took my son to a glass blowing show last year. Had to sidestep needles and drug baggies everywhere. Was gonna have lunch but with all the homeless street urchins begging everywhere we decided to pass. You could tell the place once held some charm but the left had invaded with their diversity. Most of the street people I witnessed were on the young side and seemed to have embraced the lifestyle by choice and by that I mean not visibly handicapped and able to work. Damn shame.
DeleteI'm just across he border in SC. Asheville used to be a place with Appalachian values but has been overrun by blue state transplants with self-righteous attitudes. I'll take the southern heritage, pick-up trucks, and prayers over the pretentious snobbery of vegetarians, designer dogs, and foreign sports cars.
ReplyDeleteBeen in Greer S.C. since '73
ReplyDeleteUsed to "cruise" the mountains on the
weekends...was a neat thing to do exploring
new places, sights, and people.
All that stopped about 20 years ago, or so.
Cry'in shame...commies ruin everything !
This is kind of on topic. I'm on Maui. Walk up to a cross walk and cars stop! Some very courteous drivers here. However, watch your ass at the entrance/exit of Starbucks. Lots of soundless electric cars and other fancy jobs. Me first attitude abounds. The bastards will run you right over. These jerks couldn't drive a nail. How many times I've seen a driver looking to the left and pull right out across the sidewalk never looking to the right for pedestrians. I climb a slight grassy incline just to walk behind these idiots. Never would I walk in front of them. As far as chow a couple things. I eat American food and I don't eat fuckin bait. Just knock the head offa thet minnow an glup er down. Aint hap nin mon. I went to a fine restaurant the other day and ordered a NY Strip. The menu said mashed taters and gravy. It came with fuckin rice and gott damn boc choy. What ta fuck? Sure I eat rice but not with a steak. Boc choy is slimy assed shit. When I asked the waiter about this I was told due to covid the menu has changed. I said maybe you should tell your customers about this or reprint you menu's. I won't be going there again.
ReplyDeleteThe street people ruined it for my wife and I. Cops just laughed.
ReplyDeleteI had a place in Sylva NC and we would go over the mountain or two for day trips. We stopped doing that about 7 years back as the human vermin have ruined it.
