L.A. Ordered to Pay NRA's Lawyer Fees After Losing First Amendment Case

The Washington Free Beacon reports, a federal court ordered the city of Los Angeles to pay the NRA’s lawyer fees of approximately $150,000, just months after he ruled a city ordinance violated the gun-rights group’s First Amendment rights.

The City of Los Angeles tried to penalize any contractor with ties to the NRA. The NRA sued over the ordinance and federal district court judge Stephen Wilson ruled it was an unconstitutional violation of the NRA’s First Amendment rights. The city eventually repealed it and on Tuesday, the judge ordered city officials to pay the NRA’s attorney fees totaling about $150,000.

  5. Oh, good, another opportunity to bash the NRA. Yes, that's what we need. I just upped my lifetime membership to the Patron level. Besides bashing the NRA, what have YOU done to help defend the 2nd amendment?

    1. "How easy it is to make people believe a lie, and how hard it is to undo that work again!" Every piece of anti gun legislation in the past 100 yrs. has either been approved by the NRA or they have helped write it. "During Congressional hearings in 1934, in regards to the proposed restrictions on gun sales, Karl T Frederick, the then-President of the National Rifle Association, said under testimony:

I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons.

I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns.

I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses."

As guns got more lethal, however, new laws were put in place to regulate them. In 1934, the National Firearms Act (NFA) was passed. It marked the first big federal effort to regulate guns, and it effectively made automatic weapons and other firearms that had become synonymous with crime in the prohibition era illegal. In 1938, Congress passed the Gun Control Act. Both laws were passed with the support of the NRA.

The next big piece of federal gun control legislation came amid the unrest and assassinations of the 1960s. The Gun Control Act of 1968 instituted a host of new reforms and regulations, and was met with resistance by the NRA. However, the organization's leadership eventually reconciled itself with the bulk of the legislation, saying that "the measure as a whole appears to be one that the sportsmen of America can live with."
"Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law," Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's CEO, and Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA's lobbying arm, said in a joint statement on Thursday.

"The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."

    2. Good for you Kenny, I quit NRA and joined GOA. I don't like my lobbyists dressing better then I do and going to places I can't while I am paying my dues for a specific reason, help protect my 2A rights and others rights.

    3. I keep my NRA life membership for one reason: Higher NRA membership numbers make the bad people nervous. But until the NRA cleans up its management, not one single additional dime to those fuckers. Every begging email gets the same response. The incessant physical mail gets trashed, but I'm annoyed enough to mail back the postage paid envelopes with a note inside saying "Fire corrupt Wayne LaPierre".

There are some fundamental truths in this universe, (such as "Epstein did not kill himself") and "Wayne LaPierre is a grifting piece of shit" is one of them.

  6. Our elected "betters" DGAF, it's just taxpayer's money. Won't improve until we get directly into their pockets as Florida did a few years back when attempting to enforce the state's pre-emption laws. regards, Alemaster
