If he didn't hear the police coming,you would think that he would have smelled them coming. I had an older friend in high school, who saw a cop walking,and snapped his fingers and said " damn,I forgot to buy bacon when I was at the store.This was a village with about 800 people living there,and many years ago,so the police were not quite as ready to pound on peoples heads,like we see today.
