  1. This subject is one frought with misinformation and myth; I will watch and hope it is an accurate portrayal of the events leading to secession and war.

  2. While accurate in a general sense, the video is not accurate in its details.

For example: When the states of the lower south first seceded, the general attitude in the north was not really anger but an attitude of "Good riddance. We're tired of your shit". The attack on Ft. Sumter reversed that attitude.

The video also completely leaves out any reference to the fact that Lincoln was not president when the first states seceded. He was not inaugurated until March 4, and between then and the attack on Ft. Sumter, his administration had been in negotiations with the government of South Carolina on the disposition of the fort. (Lincoln did not and could not recognize the CSA government, but he did recognize the governments of each seceding state.) Lincoln, in those early weeks of his administration, as he said many times in both his speeches and writings, was hoping to coerce the seceding states back into the union. What a lot of southerners don't understand is that the preemptive firing on Ft. Sumter, had the same effect on northerners as did the bombing of Pearl Harbor 80 years later.
