Because words matter in a Snowflake world

(CNN) — It’s just one small part of the sweeping immigration overhaul President Biden is pushing.

But the symbolic significance is huge.

Biden’s proposed bill, if passed, would remove the word “alien” from US immigration laws, replacing it with the term “noncitizen.”

  1. Like Big Sis and her man-caused disasters.

I don't think the significance is all that huge.

    1. "Sent to work in the East" doesn't seem that significant a phrase, either.

  2. Illegal noncitizen... has a nice ring to it.

  3. Settlers from 1607-1776 were not immigrants, but colonists. Some -- defeated Irish, Scots, transported criminals, African slaves -- did not volunteer for the job, but they were not immigrants, either. Most Americans do not care whether the illegals are called aliens or non-citizens. This "nation of immigrants" is an Ellis Island idea, 20th and 21st century propaganda, leading to socialism.

    1. Maybe that's what all these mexicans and central americans consider themselves "colonists"

    3. Scottdoe, that's exactly what they consider themselves, colonists resettling the mythical "Aztlan", which is the Mexican't version of Wakanda.

    4. SgtBob, my Great-Grandparents who came here more than a century ago were proud to be called "immigrants". They left a worse place and came to a better place, and then they lifted themselves and their families by their bootstraps. They didn't speak English when they arrived but they were so eager to assimilate that I didn't even know where my roots had been from until I was already an adult.

  4. How about we replace the word "Murderer" with "Life Disabler" while we're at it.

  5. My father came over here in the early 70s. He had a green card and worked here for nearly 40 years, raised a family, and passed away. He *loved* it when people asked him something along the lines of "are you from around here?" because he would always answer "No, I'm an alien". It was a true statement, but for a brief moment people would start wondering if he were crazy or not. Then he'd grin and tell them he was from the Netherlands.

  6. Why should a "non-citizen" receive any benefits allotted to "citizens"?

  7. I wont call them alien, I'll call them ILLEGAL ALIENS

  8. Yep. Amnesty for 11 million ILLEGALS while leaving the border open for the next 20 million.

  9. Might as well pass a law that makes the Constitution actually toilet paper while they're at it.

    1. As for the democrats, the Constitution has been toilet paper for most of the past 50 years or so. They will only refer to it when it serves their needs to push their agenda. And often times they will only use the parts of the Constitution and ignore the rest. In the past 20 some years many repubs have adopted the same strategy and no one seems interested enough to do anything about this.

  10. I'm confused - when the non-citizen has just as much (or more) rights to be here and take advantage of our country, just who are the pigeon and the statue ? Because if both are one and the same, whaddifferencedoesitmake ?

Legal and illegal - makes it pretty clear who is who.
