We had slingshots as kids and on the train tracks heading from Pittsburgh to the J&L Steel plant in Aliquippa, one could find an unlimited supply of round iron ore pellets that fell from the train cars. They were the size of large blueberries and perfect for slingshots which were amazingly accurate even at distance.
I used to have to replace bearings in a couple of big grinders. A coworker asked if he could have the old ones. He used the balls for sling shot ammo. He claimed to have bagged a deer with it.
My grandfather would scoop these up in Minnesota near the train tracks. He gave me a bunch at one point...dirty, but great slingshot ammo. I was told they were Taconite pellets.
What's even funnier, I took some of taconite pellets, spray painted them gold, and spread them along the beaches in Florida. Drives the metal detectors batty.

Certainly a way to trim a tree.
ReplyDeleteWow! They are a great shot. Someone that knows their slingshot.
ReplyDeleteIs that a wrist rocket he is using to break dead branches with?
ReplyDeleteHard to tell if it's a wrist rocket or a regular slingshot.

DeleteI read a thing where a guy picked up a .32 caliber ball mold and made slingshot ammo from wheel weights.
