I've been running the same batch of 14 or so PMags in my ARs forever, including in 3 gun. I don't treat them nice. Empty mags and partials get dropped and picked up later (sometimes stepped on after they fall), I "monopod" my rifle on them, which means I basically land on the bottom of the mag when I drop prone. I leave them loaded for months/years at a time before rotating them out of the "ready" group into the "range" group.
ReplyDeleteOnly problem I've had with them is the springs eventually starting to wear out. Even then, they fed just fine, but I noticed my bolt wasn't locking rear on certain mags. And that took a LOT of use.
It is probably something other than the spring - assuming it is properly made.
DeleteA proper spring does not "wear out" so to speak.
They may not "wear out" like an old pair of boots, but they do become compressed and loose their "spring back". I've replaced a shitload of springs in guns, cars & tools to get them running again.

DeleteSprings absolutely do wear out. Pistol recoil springs usually have a round count spec on them, and should be replaced regularly (every 2000 or so rounds, is good.) AR buffer springs are one of the reasons people come out of the military thinking the platform is bad. Their buffer springs are all worn out.
DeleteSlightly off topic, I had my Live Fire range test yesterday as part of my requirements for applying for a license to carry.
ReplyDeleteFirst two pistols were in 22LR caliber, there were a surprising number of misfires. The range instructor was a little embarrassed but explained that in order to find enough rounds to teach the class he had to scrounge around and beg, burrow or buy from private stocks. Some of which was not, apparently, stored correctly.
If and when I get my license and can legally shop for guns and ammunition, I foresee headaches ahead.

I have 4000 22LRs for sale. Won't deal with stupid laws about owning ammo but these are federal in 525 round boxes. Legit commercial stuff, 2 years old
