When I was living in some country apartments several of the guys would get together on Friday nights and practice in the parking lot. One night I heard a shitton of yelling. Thought one of them got shot, they were rather drunk. Nope, guy got him a William Tell. One of the other guys there had one as well displayed on his wall.
#3 is pretty darn clever and would be a good solution for limited clearances - like with a high property wall or such, where a normal door couldn't swing. You'll notice, the weight naturally balances. He's just got the truss work done, I think thin plate steel comes next to make the space secure.
Don't know if it's the same guy or not - but there's a YouTube video of a fellow making a door like that for his shop. For the life of me, I can't remember what the name of the video is or keywords that'd help you find it. :-/
