    One would be more impressed if the fenders were between the boat and the pier, but o.k.

      My thought exactly. Although, if you blow the picture up, it does appear that there are fenders between the boat and the wall.

    Lock walls have sliders to tie up to. This looks like a seawall and if he had left enough slack for the boat to stay in the water it looks like he would have a punctured hull.

    He might know a little about knots but he doesn't know squat about tying up a boat or tides .
