I really hope people complaining about workers earning barely enough for the most basic necessities take a good long look in the mirror about the value of human life and labor. Nobody is railing about qualified employees getting fair wages, what we are saying that if you intend to earn a good wave then you need a marketable skill. Working at establishments that can replace you with a 16 year old and never miss a beat as a long term career choice means you will make poor pay. Labor Unions are the reason Democrats want the minimum wage increased. If the minimum wage is increased from $11 to $15, then every union worker will get a comparable increase. Those making $21 will get an increase to $25 with the next contract. The union gets a cut out of the increase, and in turn the unions fund the Democrats even more.
What do you do with those who learned a trade, and are paid $15 an hour starting out as an apprentice, or those who worked hard and finally earned a raise to $15 an hour? The same argument can be made about forgiving student debt. What are you going to do for those who "played by the rules" and paid off their student debt, and those who worked hard to get a $15 per hour wage?
$22 an hour sounds good. Taking home only $5.50, not so much. Any bets the donks could out Denmark the Danes on taxation? My take is they don't give a crap about people, they just want more taxes.
The great lie about " free health care and college education " gets repeated constantly by leftists. I worked with a guy awhile ago that had lived in some part of France, he had an ex-wife and 2 daughters that were still living there, and was a NPR fan. He would go on about their system vs ours and how great theirs was, get sick ? Go to the hospital " free " and other such nonsense. So I ask him, Bill what is the tax rate in France ? I don't remember the number he gave but it was high, surprisingly high, so I ask how the fuck you benefit from a system that takes a huge chunk of your salary off the top to support the free tag, being blind he couldn't see the truth that that free was very damn expensive JD
So, AOC wants to saddle small businesses with another business killing regulation based her assessment that people can't support their families on anything less. What she and her Demonrat colleagues don't seem to grasp is that increasing the cost of producing whatever product a small business produces will have TWO immediate effects. Either the business will have to increase prices or lay off workers to keep prices the same. Increasing prices will drive marginal customers to someone else's product or the customer will just make do with out. Either one is a death sentence for that business. See Walmart and Amazon's business model for how that works out for mom & pop operations.
In an already struggling economy the lost jobs due either to closure or layoffs won't be compensated for, probably EVER. Ask Portland and Seattle how the $15.00 min wage worked out for their "downtown" businesses. The ones that could moved, taking their local tax contribution with them. The ones that stayed mostly went bankrupt within a year.
