Sorry 'bout that

A New Jersey woman was mistakenly outed as a confidential informant by a police chief who left a voicemail on a wrong number, a lawsuit claims.

Former Penns Grove Police Chief Patrick Riley Sr. left the message on a number he believed was the woman’s in June 2020, she claims in the complaint filed Friday in New Jersey federal court.

  1. Dang, that would be one way to disrupt a gang, call one member when you know he cannot answer and leave a bogus message for another gang member thanking them for their cooperation.
" Billy, this is chief Simmons, thanks for the tip that led to us seizing twenty pounds of coke from Dylan last week. As soon as you can provide more information on Hector, we'll slip you some more cash."
And if Billy mysteriously received money a day or two before the call, even better.

  2. It would be a shame if any Antifa or BLM types were mistakenly outed to their compatriots as police informers. A real shame.

  3. Police Chief needs to issue that woman a CCW permit and his weapon.

  4. Good way to get rid of a problem miscreant....or get an innocent person killed. Can go either way.
