AND WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA TAKES THE LEAD!!!

While California Democrats are looking to jack up the taxes on guns and ammunition in their latest attempt to punish those exercising their Second Amendment rights, the Republicans in charge of the West Virginia legislature are moving in the opposite direction. On Thursday, Gov. Jim Justice signed H.R. 2499 into law, which will remove the state’s sales tax on firearms and ammunition starting on July 1st.

  1. Bought a place in Texas when I retired from the Army because my sisters lived here and I was tired of snow. I read a lot of shit on the internet about how great this place is and how it’s the place that will lead this country back to some kind of normal. I’ve been here 18 years and I’m here to tell you that simply is not true and I’ll be headed back to West by God in the very near future. At least up home they won’t be pounding my ass in property taxes so they can brainwash little children about the evils of being white.

    1. I'm from Texas and I've also lived in WV. Albeit not as a retired person. Assuming you have an equivalent house and equivalent salary, Texas will hit you up on property taxes and WV will gig you on income tax, property tax, and personal property tax (high tax every year on every car, bike, boat, RV, etc. you own). The difference negligible - they'll get you either way. I think WV was actually a little worse (I moved back to Tx 15 years ago), but like I said they'll both get you on taxes come hell or high water.

WV may be a little better for a retired person with older vehicles, Tx a little better for a working person content with a modest house. Plus Tx has an actual economy that doesn't rely on WalMart, Meth, and State employment.

    2. From Texas, living in WV (Far Eastern Panhandle) for the last 20 years, wanting to return to the Trans Pecos AO. WV has a lot going for it particularly when considering the neighboring areas of NOVA and MD. Don Curtain nailed it in his second paragraph, though.

Property taxes in Texas depend a lot on the school district. Some places are down right reasonable.

WV has been good to me but no matter how hard I try, every time I climb out of a hollow here and top a ridge here when looking west I catch myself looking for the hills and mesas out west, sniffing the air for the aromas of live oak, cedar, mesquite...and proper brisket!

All said, gun laws in WV are much superior to TX but hopefully that will change.

    3. Hell, Lost...if you missed 'it' the last time, you're in for a treat come Cicada time. I'm in Inwood, and you'll lose an outside month and a half here shortly.

    4. Millerized,
We have met already (howdy!) and yes, I fondly remember the last brood emergence. I am in the woods up on the ‘mountain’ east of you on the other side of the county and the cicadas were/are quite the show up here.
If only the invasion from London was only once every 17 years...

  3. Meanwhile, Tennessee can't get a sales-tax relief bill for gun safes out of committee.
