So much for being a good role model

GREEN LEVEL, N.C. (WTVD) -- A popular Charlotte-area teacher was killed in an Alamance County shootout with a Mexican drug cartel last week, the Alamance County Sheriff's Office said during a news conference Wednesday.

Barney Harris, a basketball coach at Union Academy in Monroe was well-loved and respected, but Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson said, on the side, Harris was involved in the "dangerous and deadly" drug world.

  2. My hometown. He was my nephew's baseball coach a few years ago. Good guy on the outside. I have no clue how it took this turn. Drugs and money will make you do some evil things.

  3. The sheriff was up front, saying the Mexican cartel will exact retribution, and somebody in his county will die. I mean, damn, that has to be on his mind 24-7, and the likelihood he can't prevent killings. This is not your basic stop and rob. For the sheriff, business got a lot more serious.

  4. Well, hell, I live in Alamance county, NC. Truth be told, I had to look up that little town. It is surprisingly close to me.

It's really a sleepy little county. I guess you never know.......

    1. That is what the cartels want, sleepy little towns to distribute drugs to other parts of the state that way there is less law to bother them. Doing things in big towns means more eyes on them!!! grayman
