It was easier to do when we had pay phones

TAMARAC, Fla. – A 12-year-old boy from Margate was arrested Thursday on accusations that he used a fictitious email address to send a bomb threat to his school.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, an email was sent to Renaissance Charter School on North University Drive in Tamarac Wednesday afternoon that read, “There’s a bomb in your school ten minutes remain until you blow.”

During my junior year in Germany, it seemed like there was a bomb threat at least once a week during the spring and of course, school was out for the day when that happened. They'd try to corral everybody out into open areas while the school was cleared, but everybody would just take off and go get high which of course was the reason the threat was called in.
We were out of school so much I'm surprised the senior class was able to graduate.

  2. Back in my day kids were always pulling pranks. The school administrators were a lot smarter back then and it never disrupted the school too much. Nowadays, with the snowflakes we have administering schools, even minor pranks would shut the place down.

Think about it. What would happen today if a kid snuck a handful of rifle or handgun ammo - just the ammo, but live rounds - into the school and then planted it in a few places to be discovered later. Pandemonium and an AP story to follow.

Then again, the perpetrator would probably not be able to refrain from bragging about it. After all, 12 year old boys aren't known for their smarts.

  3. I was naive and slightly mnnocent. We'd only call to order pizzas to the house across the street then watch the confusion. One time I got so bold as to order a wedding cake. Yes, it was actually delivered. People got more pissed than I imagined.

    Simpler times.
