Oh man, that was hilarious. (The guy in the vidio thought so too.)
Yeah, Brian, that's my 67 year-old self too. Indeed, last year when I had to go car shopping (*), I had to do something like that more than once. If I had to crawl in or out, it was always a show stopper. I couldn't buy a car that I couldn't get in or out of quickly. Did you notice that when he was on his knees that the top of his head was *higher* than the roof of that automobile.
I rode up to Cincinnati in a friends Corvette once. Getting in and out of it wasn't quite as bad as the guy in the video, but it was bad enough. Riding down the interstate, I also noticed that as we passed semi trucks, I was looking *UP* at the tops of the tires. No thank you. Besides all that, it was the most uncomfortable car I have ever ridden in, so no Corvette for me.
(*) I would rather take a beating than shop for a replacement automobile. What a pain in the ass. I'm kind of counting on this latest one to last longer than me.
Lol. I use the sit and spin method to get out of any car smaller than a crown victoria. I didn't realize that's how I get it done until you said it. My knees ain't what they used to be. The other day I had to get into a drag car over the roll cage. I got in alright. I damned near got out like that guy in the video.
Some people think it would be great to own a high end sports car or supercar. They are actually really hard to live with. Back in the big 80's my college roommate's dad had a Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer and they ended up getting rid of it because you couldn't drive it fast enough in traffic to keep it from overheating. All it was good for was trailering to the race track. That family let me borrow a brand new 911 one time and I drove it around a little and handed them back the keys. I told them I couldn't even afford to borrow that car. I'm not saying don't do it if want to and have the cash. Just know that there is a lot that goes with owning one. And they are real hard to get in and out of. Think about that for a minute if it's crashed and on fire. For the record I think that McLaren is one cool car. Rent one.
At 67 the wife's Camry is getting a bit hard to get in and out of for both of us. My Forester has no such problems at all, to the point she is starting to think about something taller for her next ride.
Last vehicle I bought, I purposely measured the seat height to make sure it was about average chair height. Makes it easy for my wife to transfer from her wheelchair, and also makes it a lot easier on my knees.
Q: Sir, have you had anything to drink to day? A: I don't answer questions. Order: sir, please step out of the car. What a good natured fellow that guy is.
That's pretty much how I'd have to do it too

Looks like grand pa got a new toy?
ReplyDeleteThat's *exactly* how I had to do it to get out of a '69 Corvette Stingray when I was a service writer for a Walmart TLE.
ReplyDeleteThe secret to getting in and out of sports cars is the sit and spin. It works on almost all sports cars. It does not work on a Mercedes Gullwing.
ReplyDeleteYup! That procedure works on both my C4 Vettes. Haven't tried it on a Mercedes Gullwing.

DeleteThat was about as funny as watching my 6'1", 240# father trying wedge himself into a Lotus Esprit.
ReplyDeleteGerry
That's me trying to get off the crapper every morning.
ReplyDeleteDitto that!
DeleteI know the feeling.

ReplyDeleteIt is ironic that most of the people that can afford a car like this are to old to get in and out of it.
ReplyDeleteIn a car like that you can be your own airbag.

DeleteI was drooling over ths vw van in the background - the Yellowstone version with the extra windows.
ReplyDeleteAs for the overpriced crap sports car - no thank you, I know too many more fruitful ways to spend $100k+.
