Tennessee eyes 2-week tax holiday for restaurants, groceries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WKRN) — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is proposing a $100 million, two-week sales tax holiday on restaurants, bars and groceries, as his administration looks to divvy up hundreds of millions of dollars in extra spending due to better-than-expected revenues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. What kind of bullsh*t feel good measure is that? 2 week tax holiday? These people really have nothing but time on their hands. Surely they can do better, but choose this virtue signal BS.

    1. Tennessee doesn't have a state income tax. Gotta pay for infrastructure somehow.

  2. Why not remove sales tax on groceries permanently??? Would help out everyone's cost of living

    1. If they did that, Tennessee would institute a state income tax to pay for everything.

    2. Florida doesn't charge sales tax on unprepared food, and we're doing fine.

  3. And this is the same Tennessee that can't get a sales tax exemption for the purchase of gun safes out of committee for the last six years.
