      My understanding is,
      "Bless your heart" = "aren't you stupid" or clueless or beyond help.
      It contains a bit of sympathy.

    Years ago, my girlfriend and I were on our way home from an evening out, and I got stopped at an intersection by a light. When the light turned green, my shift lever just flopped kinda like #10. I told her it happened to every guy sooner or later.

    Took an hour and a half to get a tow. Luckily, there was a bar right there on the corner.
