A 44-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a fire engine in San Bernardino on Thursday, officials said.
Around 9:45 a.m., the Highland Fire Department reported that their fire engine was stolen in the area of Cooley and Pedley streets in San Bernardino, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Some fire engines up into the 1990's had Detroit Diesel 2 cycle engines which is why they sound the way they do. Always wanted to drive one of those. They used 2 strokes because the RPM is real good for spinning the pump.
I see this as an example of how the California population has grown. When I lived in the vicinity Highland wasn't even a city, let alone one with its own fire department.
