Why I'm Seriously Considering NOT Renewing My Carry Permit

This is a video I filmed last year and have been sitting on for obvious reasons, just watch.

VIDEO HERE   (10:21 minutes)

While I agree with his sentiment, that ship has already sailed for 99.9% of American gun owners.

  1. I recently had to make this decision. It was not an open and shut case either way, but in the end I got a lifetime TN CCW. I figure it'll be harder to revoke if I've paid and qualified for a lifetime license.

  2. Ain't you about to be part of a Constitutional Carry state?

    1. I think all it's waiting on is the RINO governor's signature and then it'll go into effect on 1 July.
I'll still renew mine regardless when it comes due in a few years so I can travel to other States that require a permit, although I haven't done so since I attended MVB's funeral in Alabama shortly after we moved here. Well, except Kentucky, and they have CC since last year.

  3. Once you have a carry permit, you might as well renew it, because you are already in the system. Don't think for a moment that you are removed from the system should you let your carry permit expire.
For me, I weighed the option of staying under the radar as a gun owner, or to get a carry permit. I chose to get the carry permit so that I could legally carry a loaded handgun in the car with me when I travel, since you never know when you can find yourself in the middle of a riot these days. I would rather have a police officer know that I have a carry permit, than risk the legal consequences of getting caught with a loaded handgun in the car with me should I get pulled over.
One caveat, make sure you abide by the law when transporting a gun through states that are not gun friendly, because their police likely have access to info about your carry permit too.

    1. LTC or not, in Texas it is complety legal to carry locked and loaded in your car, boat, etc. Everything is covered, generally under our Castle Doctrine. Of course there are some distance and visibility restrictions butborher than that it is almost the same as having a postol in the car while licensed to carry.

    2. Yes, every time your driver's license is check it reveals you have CCW permit.

They know as soon as your plate is run if it's registered in your name.

Why you should always identify when pulled over.

  4. Kenny, thanks for posting. Certainly something to think about. But, even if I don't renew my CCW the government already knows that I jumped through the hoops for the last 30 years, so they know I am a serious gun owner. It is hard to get away from a corrupt malevolent government.

  5. While it might seem counter-intuitive, when it comes to firearms acquisition, Americans are too law-abiding. The government should not be allowed so much information.

    1. What sucks is like the gentleman in the video says, our permits are done through DMV so as soon as a cop runs my plates, they know I have a permit.

  6. My experience in Georgia has been (back in the 90's), the first time, that he wasn't told or didn't care. I said, with my hands on the wheel, I've got a gun in the glove compartment. The cop just nods and gives me my speeding ticket. The other time, I had totaled my Jimmy and told the Sergeant on the scene that there was a gun in the console. He nodded and said I could pick it up at the station the next morning. I did.
Well, we've had twenty-five years for things to develop. Both times, I was dealing with small town cops. Here, our former sheriff (until 12/31/20) was a big Second Amendment supporter. I don't know much about the new guy except he's not the candidate with a Yankee accent.

  7. I’ve heard, anecdotally, that here in Texas the link between your LTC and the DMV is a good thing. Most Texas cops (outside the blue hives) view LTC carriers as “good guys” and give them a pass/warning on minor traffic violations.

I’ve been pulled over once for speeding, by a constable in a red county. As soon as I told him I had an LTC and was armed his whole demeanor changed, he became very friendly and let me go with a warning. I’ve heard similar stories from friends. Make of that what you will.

    1. And don't forget to hand the LEO your license and your LTC and to let them you are armed. The funny thing about this is the fact that if you don't have a LTC and a firearm is in the car, you have no duty to notify like you do with a LTC. Seems assbackwards to me but I play by their rules.

    1. That tard used to be a cop till he got sick of being told to do unlawful and unconstitutional shit. You really need to look some more of his Youtube content before passing judgement.

    2. So you believe that fundamental natural rights are only for some people?

    3. Did I say that? No. What I said was look at his other content and that why he stopped being a cop. Reading is fundemental.

  9. Mine's still got five years to run, so by then Tennessee will be a true Constitutional Carry state.

Then I can decide, but I'll carry regardless.

  10. Here in Louisiana it's a never ending money pit, even with lifetime you have on going expenses such as renewed training every 5 years. Today it costs $125 for the training who knows what the costs will be in 5, 10 or 15 years. It's an open carry state with no added bullshit and with a provision that local governments can't be more restrictive than the state. I let mine go, Mississippi and Arkansas are constitutional carry and Alabama mostly doesn't bother you unless you're really fucking up, that's about the only places I travel to these days.

  11. In many states, Carry Permits and Hunting Licenses are tied to your home address. When LEOs are dispatched to your home, they're told, "There are firearms on the premises."

If you let your permits and licenses lapse, this guy figures you're off the "active" tier list.

Guard your S&W .38 revolver purchased at SEARS in 1965 like it's 14K gold not stainless steel.

  12. I recall a few years ago, a newspaper published the names, addresses and phone numbers of all local CCP holders in New York state. The plan was to get them harassed by neighbors, but instead, they became the targets of robberies. Maybe another reason to drop off the public records.

  13. I have been stopped twice by cops with a gun in my car. In Michigan, I believe it is the law that you must inform the officer that you are a CCW holder. In both cases I told the cop I was a CCW holder and had a gun in the car. Neither one acted like they cared. One time the gun was on the floor with a newspaper over the top of it. I told him where it was, he took my license, and walked back to his cruiser to check on my license, without so much as a look back.
I do think that there is something to be said for the police respecting the fact that a person who goes through the hoops to get their CCW is most often of good character. I would suspect that generally a criminal/drug dealer doesn't bother to get the training, background check, fingerprints, and then pay for the permit. The first time, here in Michigan, it ran around 225$ all together. Now it is just 105$ every 5 years, I think.
The thing that I hate is that we must register our handguns with the local police. You pick up your gun, and you get a copy of the paperwork that you have to turn in within 10 days to the local cop shop.
