Cyberattack on US pipeline is linked to criminal gang

NEW YORK (AP) — The cyberextortion attempt that has forced the shutdown of a vital U.S. pipeline was carried out by a criminal gang known as DarkSide that cultivates a Robin Hood image of stealing from corporations and giving a cut to charity, two people close to the investigation said Sunday.

The shutdown, meanwhile, stretched into its third day, with the Biden administration saying an “all-hands-on-deck” effort is underway to restore operations and avoid disruptions in the fuel supply.

  1. Cybersecurity is just too expensive, at least according to the bean counters.
Those who only see the bottom line aren't looking deep enough.

  2. I'm trying to figure out just how some gang besides the oil companies could make money off of a fuel shortage. Help me understand.

    1. They lock up the company's servers with encryption, then demand payment to get the encryption keys. Usually with a relatively short window to comply, or lose the opportunity altogether.

    3. It’s called short selling. Crooks make a ton off of it all the time. Just like was done on a MASSIVE scale just after 9/11.

yes! Comrade Zhou Bai-Dien is going to send Kamalatoe down there, and to ensure we all know she's "on it"; she can take along one of .gov's "top men"; so she can stay 'on top' of things.

  4. Paid $3.85gal for 93 on the way home tonight. Fortunately, a fill up is under 4gal in that bike, and gets 70mpg. Regular 87 is still $2.85ish, not that much higher than normal. Still $0.75 higher than 6 months ago, and probably $1.00 less than 6mo from now.

  5. Interesting how there hasn't been any kind of issue with Democrat Warren Buffett's railroads.

Nothing, it's a trick question. Michigans Governor Whitmer promises to shut down Line 5 this week.

Shutting down pipelines is Democrat policy.
