I would like to just touch it. How much for a touch? OG
ReplyDeleteWow, 1/2 million for a pistol.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was riding high with a near mint Batman #5.
Rock Island Auction is a quality place. Last year or the year before, (probably longer, I'm 75 and time flies) they auctioned JFK's Presentation M1 Garand. They send me their catalogs. I'm like a kid drooling at a candy store display. Last year, they had a pair of Remington 40x .22LR sporters, new in the box. I put in a bid and made arrangements for a telephone bid. I figured, what the hell, I'm going to spring for $5k maybe........auction went off, in 20 seconds they went for $18K plus the premium.
ReplyDeleteA few years back (I am 75, too) somebody auctioned their father's WW2 M1911A1 Singer pistol, serial number 0001, which the Army Air Force allowed the owner to buy at the conclusion of the war. That was the claim, anyway.
DeleteI remember that Singer auction. It was big news in thw gun rags at the time. I think Shooting Times did a piece on it.
DeleteSuper cool!
ReplyDeleteAn 1836 Patterson sold for $977,500.00 at auction a few years ago.

"Colt Purchased by Silicon Valley Zillionaire."
DeleteI wonder who that might have been.
I live 100 miles from the Cody Firearms museum. I can wallow in the unattainable there to my hearts content (or until my eyes glaze over). I generally make a yearly visit. The Cody Dug Up Gun Museum is a mile closer.
ReplyDeleteIn re: the faux tooled leather-covered book in one photo. THat's one of the Time-Life collection about the Old West, the whole of which I checked out from my local library and read from cover to cover more than once when I was a boy.
