Oughta work

Does the officer shoot or not? Is there a better option to stop a person who is threatening but in distress? If an officer must shoot, is there a way to lessen the chance of death? These questions hung over the training that played out days ago at LaGrange Police Department's gun range. But some version of these scenarios unfolds for real across America daily as police engage with individuals who are sometimes armed and erratic, posing a threat to officers or the public.

The training is part of a new program launched by the West Georgia agency meant to address some of these questions. The program, called "Shoot to Incapacitate," is challenging decades of police orthodoxy around use of deadly force. Instead of teaching officers to always aim for available center mass of the body — usually the chest, upper torso and head — the training is giving them another option if they must fire their weapons in the line of duty.

  1. Nothing good will come from this. Unintended consequences. First time the extremities are missed and a bystander gwt hit…….

  2. Yes, let in jeopardy LEO's make yet another instantaneous decision, under extreme stress, then using their finely honed marksmanship skills gained through extensive, diligent and costly training.....not! This is complete pony puckey apparently being considered by "not real officers" who are just administrators/politicians to appear more "woke" to the whiney libs. Won't even bother to go into the conflicts with existing laws.

  3. Lots of well informed opinions in the comments about this bad idea.

  4. "During that time, his officers fired their guns in 13 deadly force incidents, including two that resulted in death."

Of the 1013 police shooting deaths in 2019, 45 were "unarmed" (fighting, fleeing, reaching of course) - of those, 19 were white and 9 black.

Once again, a nonexistent "problem" manufactured by the colluding media - is being touted and radical "solutions" deployed.

STOP FEEDING THE ANIMALS. Tell them No.

    2. It’ll more than likely end up them being allowed to shout: “Stop! Or I’ll shout Stop! Again!”

…as long as they don’t sound too raaaaacist while doing it. 😕

  6. How about Overpenetration of a "Shoot the arm" and secondary victim hit. Current LE ammo is made to generate around 14 inches of penetration per FBI requirements.

Oh and your *still* going to have civilians videoing the incident with plenty of Race Bating "Get-A-Million-Bucks" type at the ready.

Police are in a bad situation DUE to their "Leadership" FROM Both sides of this evolving civil war. Remember don't be a litterbug, police up your brass.

  7. Police absolutely need a better non-lethal but reliable containment deployment system. Verbal compliance and pain compliance are unreliable.

For millenial suspects, they could hold up a phone and exclaim "wow, look at this!"

  8. The best option: LEOs quit your job and get a regular 9 to 5 Monday through Friday Holidays off job. Yea, you'll lose the "power rush" and maybe have to accept a little less salary, but believe me I know it'll be worth it in the long term. Get a CCL and carry. Protect yourself and family, get on with your life and stop trying to save the world.

  9. Think of the law suits when a crook dies in a police shoot out. "You could have shot him in the arm and not killed him".

  11. Yes! All LEOs should quit or take FMLA and let the purge begin. That should put an end to all or most of the fruitloops, Karens and spray n pray gangsters in the nation and then we could get back to a somewhat civil lifestyle.

    1. Seconded.

      I am my 'First Responder'.

And on the subject of non-essential personnel, why a standing army?
I am a militia, why should I pay for an American military protecting somebody else's borders?

  13. If I'm a cop trying to apprehend a 350 lb armed gorilla, you can bet your ass I'll be aiming my gun at either the criminal's head or heart, without a doubt and as it should be!

  14. Next stop: replace all police firearms with islamic prayer books. It mentions killing for their "peace" often and in bloody detail. Yeah, that outta owrk.

  15. Shooting to wound is a mistake. But like was said above they do need better non lethal options. Put a riot shield in every patrol car, take the tasers away (they are nothing but torture devices in today's world) and give them back batons. The black "child" with the knife a month ago was a good shoot, but all too often the citizen is just standing with the knife or blunt weapon and the cops don't have the balls or the intelligence to do anything other than shoot.

  18. I was an armed Police Officer for 28 years. I had to qualify to carry 3 times a year. I always did. Our training was "Hit center mass. Then hit it again." We were taught to double-tap. And we did.
If the situation required a shooting then we had to make the shooting count.
