SALEM — A measure passed by the Oregon state House would prohibit public schools and employers from discriminating against hairstyles associated with race.
Following a 58-0 vote Wednesday, the bill now heads to the state Senate.
No black tribe wears dreadlocks. It only became a 'black thing' when it became associated with Rastafarianism. That'll be the Rastafarianism that began in the 1930's (with Haile Selassie, Emperor and 'Prophet' of Nigeria).
Dreadlocks have been worn by Indians (dot) and Europeans (Vikings, Greeks, ...) going all the way back 3000 years to the Minoans.
So, yet again, American blacks are trying to claim something they borrowed/stole from whites. Hell, they have no culture, what they have was copied from the share-croppers and poor-white-trash they lived next to.
Africans view all this with disgust and embarrassment. But I'm happy to give them this, if they give up all that white-people-stuff and go back to wakanda.
Sorry #1...Haile Selassie was Emperor Of Ethiopia ...not Nigeria...other side of the continent and totally different racial stock.
He wore his hair about an inch long...
All the dreadlocks on historical Greek, Viking and Indians only occurred on Cable mini series in order to keep the hair dressers union fully employed...
You may want to examine a few pieces of the statuary and pottery of ancient Greek and Minoan civilisations - which depict men with, Oh look at that dreadlocks.
As for Indian, even now fakirs still sport dreadlocks, or are you saying they appropriated too?
As for the Vikings, evidence doesn't come from their own records but from the Romans who describe hair styles including elaborate braiding and ... dreadlocks.
The fact is that cultures 'ape' the powerful. Rastafarians copied the 'mystical' fakirs rather than the reverse and my point (even if lack of caffeine caused a dramatic national swap) that dreadlocks are less black than every other culture stands.

The only dreadlocks worn by ancient Greeks,Indians, or Vikings were in Cable Mini-Series TV series that kept the Hairdresser and Make Up artists unions at full employment.
What's with the rampant cultural appropriation?

Emperor of Ethiopia.
DeleteThanks Sarge
DeleteThat'll teach me to stand on my soap-box before I've had my coffee. In my defence, all them African countries look alike.
Good to see the legislators in Oregon dealing with cutting edge issues affecting their constituents...SMH.
ReplyDeleteThey're following California's lead. They passed this same law a couple of years ago.
DeleteYou almost cost me a mouthful of rum, man. I haven't heard "nappy head" in a long time.

Going by their racist logic, I'd consider a MAGA hat as religious garb.

There's a Stevie Wonder song about him being a "little nappy-headed boy". That's all I know.
