    1. Friction welding.
The parts are spun in opposite directions while pressed together.

    2. Yes, it's called friction welding.

    3. It's from the friction. The left side is in the lathe (rotating), and the right side is not rotating.

    4. I do believe that's "spin welding" where one side spins, and THAT'S what's causing the friction and then heat. As opposed to ultrasonic welding, where one of the pieces is vibrated - but that only works on a small scale as far as I know.

    5. #6 The heat is also from spinning them for fricton

    6. Nope. Thjsbis friction welding. One piece spins in a collett against the other stationary part. Constant pressure is held as the weld begins and forms what we called the rams horns. When the recipe is met, the forge cycle begins with a added amount of pressure forbthe duration of the dwell cycle until it cools enough to be handled without fear of the weld coming apart from being handled to soon. I started working for a drill pipe manufacture where I ran multiple weld shops that did this and I can say it can be very loud when the friction cycle stops and the parts "stick".

    7. Mathew W. I believe the heat is because of friction as on is spinning. Neighbor is an Engineer for Dana. He was telling me that is the way they weld the ends on some driveshafts.

    1. Don't you know? In many large cities (with Soros DA') shoplifting isn't a crime.

The 'crime' will be when that and the rest of the stores or shopping centers in those cities close their doors...

  7. #4 You can see at the start of the clip that the tree is leaning towards the houses. Which way did he think it would go when it fell?

    1. He thought he could wedge it. He thought wrong.

I can hear him telling the homeowner "Oh yeah, no problem" when he gave him a bid that was half as much as the guy that actually knew what he was doing.

    1. No sir, almonds are harvested with a shaker after a tarp like device encircles the trunk. Even shows a pic of it in your link.

  9. Those are some mighty small almond trees then. Look behind the machine and you can see the guy operating it. It's trimming knee high shrubs.
Besides, almonds are shaken from the trees and then swept up. I've seen it hundreds if not thousands of times - almonds are a major crop where I came from in California.
