    1. I knew what it was. It's a Capybara. Largest rodent in the world. Very friendly. Nutria are smaller and are all over the Everglades.

  5. If #6 is supposed to be a Viking "shield wall" I read recently that that is a myth, the Vikings never used them in actual combat. While it makes for good story telling but not based in fact.

    2. No, the Vikings did use a shield wall. Of course, their round shields were a tad larger than that, and really didn't need to be triple-layered.

Shield walls have been in use even before the Romans, and they worked.

Now, if you're not in the SCA, all you have to do to that shield wall is cut the mother fuckers' legs off, or stab them in the feet.

Small shields don't go into a shield wall. Gotta be big shields, either Greek rounds or ovals or Roman scutum, or Norse rounds, or Saxon and Norman kite shields.

Small shields are for highly mobile warriors, like flankers or skirmishers. Big shields are for the big boys.

Of course, the kids in the above video are just that, kids, and are being taught the value of unity in combat and white pride so there's that going for them.
