Your Wednesday Morning Florida Report

(NEXSTAR) – Floridians across the state might be feeling a sudden, overwhelming urge to cut their grass today.

A homeowner in Dunedin is vowing to “fight” a federal court’s ruling that he pay $30,000 in fines for failing to mow his overgrown lawn during the summer of 2018.

  1. Probably going to be the outlier here, but as anal retentive as this seems there's probably good reason for that ordinance. 10 inch high or higher grass is probably a good place for unwanted reptiles and rodents to make themselves at home in.

    1. Thirty thousand dollars seems just a bit stiff, though.

    2. Especially given that the HOA made no effort to contact him other than posting notices on the house. Fuck them.

  2. All they had to do was to send the city crew of 10 guys out to mow it, and send him a bill and a convenience fee for the service.....30 grand?....one thing for sure, he'll most likely never forget to mow again....so much for our community leaders and the myth that they "serve the best interests of those who elected them"....I think the examples set by Pelosi and the rest of the dumbocrats dispelled that myth forever....apply the same principal to the democrats that Willy Shakespeare applied to lawyers....

  3. I see living in close proximity to others as having agreed to certain social controls for the benefit of all. Excessively tall grass like piles of trash can and does invited rodents and other undesirables. Now 30k is not only excessive but probably illegal, or should be, it amounts to extortion. Fines plus fees plus interest plus whatever other bullshit they add to jack fees is the same scam the police and DA uses when they overcharge someone hoping something sticks. Fuck that shit.

  4. Americans sure love their lawns. They spend countless hours & $'s growing those crops, and cutting them to be the same length, and never eat a bit of it. We might be asking the Norks for their best recipes before too long.

  5. The dude wasn't taking care of business and should have arranged for the grass to be cut while he was away. But $30k is way out of line for the offense, IMO.
