California's so fucked up they can't even make a profit selling weed

The California Legislature on Monday approved a $100-million plan to bolster California’s legal marijuana industry, which continues to struggle to compete with the large illicit pot market nearly five years after voters approved sales for recreational use.

  1. Kalifornia can fuck up a wet dream❗️
Everybody has their hand in the pot (pun intended ) and gets their “tax“ so the cost winds up being more then what you have to pay your local weed dealer for the same product and you don’t have to pay sales tax on top of it

  2. Canada, too. About $100M revenue on $165M sunk costs, supposedly. Everyone I know went back to buying from their 'guy' cuz prices and quality. Or grow their own now.

Just like the feds managed to lose money running cathouses in Nevada. What kind of stupid does it take to lose money on that kind of business?

  5. Sounds like the apocryphal story of the IRS taking over the Mustang Ranch for back taxes and then going broke, leading to the comment that "Only the government could go broke selling whiskey and pussy."

Seriously, how do you expect to regulate something that grows wild, or "with help" from the cartels?

NOW do you fuckers understand Moonshine Whiskey?

  6. So how fuckered upon is kalifukinornia? It's so fuckered up and "progressive", that when Pasadena first got electricity, they had power outages. It is so progressive the power outages have now spread throughout the entire state, on an almost daily basis somewhere in the state. And yet they keep insisting on electing the same morons with the same lame policies. There ya go - Progress!

  8. TPTB had no idea what they were doing at both the state & local level, so they wound up stacking taxes on top of taxes and it's a whole lot cheaper to buy from a non-licensed dealer (so I hear). Some of these taxes and permits are so odorous I can't imagine why you would want to go into the dispensary biz.

  9. It never occurs to the government that something can have a purpose besides tax farming.

  10. In Canada, we have "legal" weed. You can drive to the store, buy it, and consume it however you prefer. The problem is that all of the legal weed here SUCKS. It's intentionally not very strong and most importantly way over dried. The initial promises of "we'll crush the black market with quality affordable legal options" have turned out to be completely false, and have slowly been replaced with "enforcement is key and has always been our plan."

I'm not into weed much these days, but when I have ordered (through any of the dozens of mail order operations that have been around for the last 10+ years) the quality/price/customer service just blows the legal options out of the water. Having said that, the storefront operations (when allowed to operate under the absurd restrictions placed on them) seem to be thriving, at least in my city.
