HOAs don't give a fuck

ORLANDO (AP) — A Florida couple was fined by a homeowner’s association for displaying a small gay pride flag in the front yard of their home.

WTVJ-TV reports Bob Plominski and Mike Ferrari of Oakland Park, Florida, were issued a citation telling them to take it down or pay a a $50 daily fine. The Eastland Cove HOA sent the violation notice on June 5 after receiving a complaint.

  1. The deviant mascot Democrat voters are entitled and rules don't apply to them. Well maybe I'll fly the flag in their honor by tieing it to my bumper. I drag their flag, because I cannot (yet) drag a ........

  2. HMO. don't like rules, don't buy a place with an HMO. If you do suck it up asshole. I recall reading of a guy paying a fine cuz he had a postage stamp of an American flag on his mailbox. Another fined cuz he left his garage door opened. I have enough government telling me what I can and can't do with my land without having a community doing the same.

    1. Many years ago I went to a party in a Maryland suburb of DC. I drive (and drove) a pickup and parked it on the street with the rest of the cars of the people going to the party. When I left the party, I had a ticket on my windshield. It was a "warning" that the HOA did did not allow pickups to be parked on the street or in a driveway outside of normal business hours (e.g. for tradespeople to come and fix things). A pickup after dark had to be parked in a garage with the garage door closed. My license plate number had been "reported" and if there was a second violation, then I would be ticketed and fined.

I laughed, because I didn't live there, but a friend of mine who was a cop said that the HOA security guard tickets were enforceable in some way -- if I got the "real" ticket, I'd have to pay or deal with collections agencies. I never went back to that neighborhood. I know of another HOA where you have to submit a color sample and get it approved by the HOA leadership if you want to repaint your house.

  4. Could you mean HOA instead of HMO? Not that you ate wrong, HMOs' don't give a fuck either, but they will kill you, not just cost you money.

  6. Heh. I've a F*ck Biden flag hanging in my garage, visible to any who go by. I get lots of thumbs up, even from young delivery drivers. Those who don't like it can piss up a rope.

  7. I pretty much consider this free speech. Like all free speech, I’m good with it. My gaydar ain’t what it used to be. What you say and do helps me identify whether or not I want to associate with you. Remember, freedom of association is in the same amendment. Eod1sg Ret

    1. Indeed, if it's on private property then it doesn't matter what the flag is or what the message says; we either have 1A protections or we don't.

  9. Personally I don't know how anyone, or why, lives in those prison camps known as HOA neighborhoods.

  11. You want to live in an HOA, either abode by the silly rules all the little Hitlers impose, or stage a revolution and get yourself elected to the board.

  12. Good luck with that. The best example of a dictatorship is the ubiquitous homeowner's association (HOA), second only to the Condominium Association. The homeowner has very little legal recourse, as they signed the HOA agreement before they moved in.

Now, if they can fly the rainbow warrior's flag, I should be able to fly the Confederate Battle Standard alongside a few other favorites.

Aside to this, I live in Columbus, OH in a condo. The association rules clearly state that no flags, political signs, or other controversial displays will be tolerated by the condo association. Someone put the stars and stripes on a flag pole and displayed it, then had a short argument with the association. The US flag is now allowed.

    1. The US flag can't be banned, by case law.

Everything else pretty much can be banned or regulated.

One HOA will fine you $25 for every dandelion in your yard... not joking.

The regulate paint colors, shingles colors, grass height, what can be parked in your driveway and for how long.

Because the buyer AGREED TO THE RULES. lol I've worked the last 20 years as the facilities manager of an HOA. Exactly why I would never live in one.

  13. Given the current political climate, that is pretty ballsy of the HMO.

  16. I'm good with that one. I don't want any gay, commie, southern sore loser, nazi or any other ass hole cause flag flying in my neighborhood.
Now, about that gay flag, 50 bucks a day to display it? How about all the homos getting together and paying the fee just to keep their flag flying.

  17. "I don't understand," says the pride dude. Well, now you do. I would like to occasionally fly my Lone Star flag and my gen-u-wine Texas "Come and Take It" flag, but I live in FL, and the HOA rules (which I agreed to when buying the house) say I may not. There it is.

    1. HOAs still don't overrule Constitutionally enshrined rights regardless of what their paper says, otherwise one can simply be forced or tricked into signing them all away.

  18. HOA, HMO I'm old and do that shit all the time. It used to piss me off. It's just the way it is I reckon. Of course with older age I've gotten a big dose of I could give a rats ass too. I once read A smart man knows what to say and a wise man knows whether to say it or not.

  19. Sgt. To be sure, I was calling the guy bitching about the rules an asshole, not you. My brother lives in an HOA in Fl. and likes it just fine. Good neighborhood watch, no junk cars setting on the neighbors lawn etc. To each his own. It just frosts my balls when people buy into an HOA and then complain.
